Healthcare Informatics and Information Management
Degree and Certificate Options

At St. Scholastica we offer a number of educational programs in the field of Healthcare Information Management.  While our college is accredited and our programs are approved by AHIMA, not every program provides you with the educational background required to sit for then national RHIA exam.  The following descriptions of our programs will clairfy which degrees/certificates give you the required education for the RHIA exam and which do not.

 Undergraduate Programs:

Post Baccalaureate Certificate:  Students who already hold a Bachelor’s degree may opt to complete the educational requirements for eligibility to sit for the RHIA exam by earning a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in HIM.  Students will be required to meet the same foundational courses as students in our RHIT to RHIA Progression Program, as well as complete all the core courses in the Progression Program.  The Post Baccalaureate Certificate eliminates the need to meet the general education requirements of a bachelors degree at The College of St. Scholastica.  Completion of the Post Baccalaureate certificate does qualify students to sit for the RHIA exam.

RHIT to RHIA Progression Program:  This program is for students who have completed an Associates degree in Health Information Technology and wish to further their education by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Information Management.  Upon completion of the program students will have earned a BA degree and will be eligible to sit for the RHIA exam.

 Graduate Programs:

Master of Arts in Health Information Management: Students who have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university are eligible for the MA program at St. Scholastica.  This program has been approved by AHIMA and upon completion of the Master of Arts in HIM degree, a student will be eligible to sit for the RHIA exam.

Certificate Programs:  The College of St. Scholastica offers several graduate level specialty certificates.  Please note: completion of  these certificates does NOT meet the educational requirements necessary to sit for the RHIA exam. Credits earned may also be applied to the MA in Health Information Management, should students decided to continue their education.
