Men's Baseball - vs. Presentation College
ST. SCHOLASTICA CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN
Game two of a doubleheader between the UMAC's two Saints saw a perfect start for St. Scholastica as sophomore pitcher Adian Kummet pitched four innings without allowing a baserunner, retiring 12 Presentation batters in a row. Kyle Rizzi led off the bottom of the third with a double to left-centerfield and the merry-go-round began as St. Scholastica sent eleven batters to the plate and scored six runs against Presentation starter Jeremy Elkjer and reliever Matt Lokenvitz. Two innings later they scored three more for a nine run lead but CSS pitching didn’t exactly need them all as first Mark Moriarty then Jake Gaub took to the mound in relief of Kummet over the final three innings, continuing the mastery of Presentation hitters allowing only a pair of singles in the combined two-hit shutout. Chad Weiss had a single and two doubles for St. Scholastica to key a 13-hit offensive attack. He picked up two RBI and scored twice. Kummet (4-1) earned the win for St. Scholastica (33-6, 18-1 UMAC) as they swept the season series from Presentation (17-16, 12-8 UMAC) and cemented their position as the No. 1 seed in next week’s UMAC postseason baseball tournament hosted in Wade Stadium on May 10-12.
