Men's Baseball - vs. Martin Luther
ENGBERG SPARKS SAINTS BATS WITH PAIR OF DOUBLES IN WIN
St. Scholastica took the season series against Martin Luther College with a 7-4 win in Saturday afternoon's second game of a doubleheader at Wade Stadium. The Saints (28-5, 14-1 UMAC) took game one 6-2 with a clutch 2-RBI double from Kyle Wojtysiak providing insurance runs late in game one, then won game two 7-4 after Seth Engberg’s second consecutive double in the game cleared the bases with two out in the fifth. On Friday afternoon, the Saints took the series opener from Martin Luther (5-26, 3-14 UMAC) by an 11-3 score. Only ahead 2-1 entering their half of the fifth, the Saints broke things open with Engberg’s double keying a four-run outburst. Steve Kraushaar got things started with a two out double followed by a Sean Claugherty walk. Keith Ritsche was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Chad Weiss drew a walk to force the first run across. Engberg then doubled down the left field line to clear the bases and push the score to 7-1. In the win, Engberg was 2-for-3 with his pair of doubles and collected three RBI. Weiss scored twice and added two RBI. Jake Gaub (4-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Saints in game two, pitching four and two-thirds innings surrendering only one run on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Dan Lanari added a save after coming in for Garret Groebner who had surrendered a three-run homerun that pulled the Knights within three in the top of the seventh. With two on and two outs, Lanari struck out the final batter to close out the win for the Saints.
