Men's Baseball - vs. Martin Luther
WOJTYSIAK CLUTCH DOUBLE HELPS SAINTS TO WIN OVER KNIGHTS
The Saints (27-5, 13-1 UMAC) took game one on Saturday's doubleheader against visiting Martin Luther College by a 6-2 score, with a clutch 2-RBI double from Kyle Wojtysiak providing insurance runs late in game one. An early three-run lead was trimmed to just one in the top of the sixth inning by the pesky Knights (5-25, 3-13 UMAC). Steve Kraushaar led off the Saints half of the inning with a double and was pinch run for by Daryl Fuchihara who quickly stole second. After two fly outs, Mike Lewis wrapped a line shot just inside the third base bag for a long single that scored Fuchihara. Keith Ritsche was hit by a pitch to move Lewis up to second and set the stage for Wojtysiak who lashed a double off the left center wall to bring both runners in. The bottom of the order did the most damage for the Saints in the win as Wojtasiak and Darin Carlson, the number 8, 9 hitters, each collected two RBI while the number 6 and 7 hitters, Lewis and Ritsche, both scored two runs apiece. Starter Steve Gerten (4 IP, 2 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, 6 strikeouts) picked up the win for the Saints for his second victory of the season. Ritsche pitched the final one and a third innings without allowing a hit or walk to pick up the save.
