Men's Baseball - vs. Gustavus Adolphus Coll.
BIG FIRST INNING LEADS SAINTS TO WIN OVER GUSTIES
The St. Scholastica bats and pitching were at peak efficiency in game one of a doubleheader against visiting Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday afternoon in Wade Stadium, drubbing the MIAC’s second place team with a 13 hit attack in their 13-1 win. Adian Kummet (3-0) pitched a complete game for the Saints (15-8, 8-0 UMAC) and other than a rocky start in which he allowed a run in the top of the first, kept the dangerous Gustavus (15-8, 9-3 MIAC) offense completely shut down over the remaining six innings. From the second through seventh innings Kummet faced only two batters over the minimum, twice getting double play grounders to clear the base paths. He allowed only one unearned run, walked none and struck out seven. At the plate, the Saints jumped on Gustavus starter Derek Eddie (0-1) for eight runs in the bottom of the first keyed by five straight base hits followed by a three-run homerun from Mike Lewis. The Saints posted four more on the board in the third by making the most of singles from Keith Ritsche and Lewis along with three walks. Blake Eller, Steve Kraushaar, Ritsche, and Lewis had multi-hit games for the Saints, each with two apiece. Lewis finished with five RBI.
