Men's Baseball - vs. Concordia-Moorhead
SAINTS TAKE TWINBILL OPENER OVER COBBERS
The Saints (11-3) pushed their first two batters of the game across the plate for an initial 2-0 lead and never looked back in an 11-3 victory Saturday night in the Metrodome over Concordia—Moorhead College (2-9). Chad Weiss led the game off with an infield single deep in the hole to short and moved to second on the errant throw to first before scoring on Blake Eller’s double. Eller later came around to score on Keith Ritsche’s one-out single and only four batters into the game the Saints already had a two run lead. St. Scholastica scored runs in bunches the remainder of the game with three each in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to put the Cobbers away. Junior leftfielder Steve Kraushaar picked up his first homerun of the season with a two-run shot over The Baggie in right-center in the seventh. Starter Mark Moriarty (4-1) picked up the win for the Saints allowing two runs, one earned, on only two hits, five walks and three strikeouts through four innings of work. Jake Gaub relieved Moriarty in the fifth and pitched two innings of scoreless ball including a three-strikeout sixth inning after the first three batters reached to load the bases. Eller (2-for-4, double, triple, two runs, two RBI, one stolen base), Ritsche (2-for-4, one run, one RBI), Sean Claugherty (2-for-4, one double, one run, one RBI), and Darin Carlson (2-for-3, two doubles, one run, three RBI) had multi-hit games for the Saints. With the win, the Saints pushed their current win streak to nine games. It is also the seventh consecutive game in which they have scored at least 10 runs.
