Women's Softball - vs. Gustavus Adolphus
SAINTS FALL IN SEASON OPENER

A late rally from the Saints fell short in their season opener against No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus College on Sunday afternoon in Rosemount, Minnesota. St. Scholastica scored their first run of the game with one out in the top of the seventh inning but could get no closer in the 3-1 loss to the Golden Gusties.

Pitcher Amy Jansen allowed only five hits and two walks in a strong outing for the Saints, but three of the hits she surrendered came in one inning and resulted in Gustavus' first two runs in the third, and another hit was a solo homer from Rachael Click that made it 3-0, Gustavus.

The Saints seventh inning rally began with a Chelsey Weiss single to right field. 2006 AFCA 3rd Team All-American Erica Kozacek followed with a grounder to third, reaching first on the throw to second that got Weiss for the first out of the inning.

Rilee Dawson slammed a double that scored Kozacek all the way from first and the Saints were knocking on the door with a runner at second and only one out.

But Gustavus pitcher Joyce DeWitz got Kayla Kahilainen out on an infield grounder to the right side and then picked up her ninth strikeout of the game to shut down the rally and close out the win for the Gusties.
