Men's Baseball - vs. Bethel (Minn.) University
SAINTS SWEEP BETHEL TO OPEN SEASON

St. Scholastica (2-0) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to thwart the late comeback hopes of Bethel University (0-2) in game two of a double-header at the Minneapolis Metrodome Wednesday night, sweeping the twin bill with a 7-5 victory.

After surrendering a run in the top half of the first inning, the Saints bounced back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, then two more in the second to claim an early 4-1 lead over the Royals.

After each team scored a run in the fourth to make the score 5-2, Bethel put three runs across the plate in the top of the sixth to tie the score at five.

Kyle Wojtysiak walked to start the bottom of the sixth off for the Saints, and after moving to second on a wild pitch, came around to score the go-ahead run on a Chad Weiss single. Weiss would later score on a Keith Ritsche single to give the Saints their final two run cushion.

Weiss was 2-for-3 in game two, finishing his day with 5-for-7, five RBI totals.

2006 UMAC Pitcher of the Year Mark Moriarty got the start on the mound for the Saints and gave up only one earned run over four innings of 3-hit ball. Adian Kummet, the UMAC's Rookie of the Year last season, came on in relief of Moriarty in the fifth and picked up the win with the Saints sixth-inning rally.
