SAINTS FORCE OVERTIME WITH SECOND HALF COME BACK BUT FALL TO VISITING BETHANY LUTHERAN
St. Scholastica battled back from a 42-31 halftime deficit with a second half surge, tying the game on a Will Maupins 3-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation, but the visiting Vikings from Bethany Lutheran College outscored the Saints 6-0 in overtime to grab the win Friday night at the Reif Center, 82-76. St. Scholastica (7-10, 4-4 UMAC) shot a blistering 68 percent from the field in their second half comeback spurred by Maupins’ 14 points. He finished with 18 points, but the team’s leading rebounder pulled down only three in the game as the Vikings out rebounded St. Scholastica 47 to 23 in the game. Also reaching double-figures for the Saints was senior Derek Johnson with 12 points, Eric Langdon with 11, and Brady Zubke with 10. Bethany Lutheran (10-9, 7-2 UMAC) was led by Alfonso Mayfield’s game-high 21 points. Teammate Travis Priem recorded a double-double in the win with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Saints are back in action Saturday afternoon with a 5 p.m. contest at the Reif against UMAC foe Martin Luther College. Early in the day, the Saints will welcome past players back to the College with an Alumni game at 12:15 p.m. and a social following at 1:30 p.m. prior to the women’s game tip-off at 3 p.m.
