Eligibility for the MENTUR Project

To be eligible, a student must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or foreign national with permanent visa who has expressed interest in becoming a registered nurse and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Are from an economically disadvantaged background as determined by FAFSA
  • Are from an educationally disadvantaged background
    • First generation college student
    • Attends/graduated from a High School where 30% or more of the students are eligible for free/reduced lunch program
    • Attends/graduated from a High School where standardized test scores are below state average
    • Has a diagnosed physical or mental disability
  • Are from a racial or ethnic minority group under-represented in the Registered Nurse workforce.

Selection Criteria for the MENTUR Project Scholarship and Stipend Awards

An applicant must meet one ore more of the eligibility criteria, and:

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in nursing
  • Demonstrate a need for support services in order to enter/complete the nursing major
  • Demonstrate commitment to enroll full-time in MENTUR activities/nursing studies
  • Demonstrate a need for financial support in order to enter/complete the nursing major
  • Be in good academic standing

In cases where there are equally qualified applicants, priority will be given to racial or ethnic minorities, those who meet multiple eligibility criteria, and those with prior nursing background.

Qualified applicants may participate in MENTUR activities regardless of scholarship/stipend award.  Applications to the program are accepted year round for services.
