Women's Basketball - vs. UM-Morris
COUGARS TOO MUCH FOR SAINTS
St. Scholastica suffered through a sub-par shooting night in a 77-61 loss at Minn.-Morris on Saturday afternoon, a game in which the Saints never led despite out scoring the Cougars 30 to 16 down low in the paint.
While the Saints were shooting only 25 percent from the field (9-for-36) in the opening half, Morris fared much better making 12-of-29 (41%) including 8-of-15 three-pointers that helped stretch their first half lead to eight at the intermission.
The Saints picked things up in the second half to shoot 34 percent from the field but Morris also had a better second half, shooting 52 percent to keep St. Scholastica at bay.
Megan Downs got her first start of the season for the Saints and responded with a team-high 15 points in the loss. Center Ashley Lubbers had a season-high 14 points while Whitney Latham added 11 and recorded the first double-double of her career as she also ripped down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Tynell Kocer led Morris with a season-high 23 points and Annika Bergman recorded a season-high seven rebounds in the win.
St. Scholastica (5-11, 1-4 UMAC) drops their second in a row while Morris (7-8, 4-1) extends their win streak to three games with the defeat of the Saints.
