APA Citation for a Book Review

Example:
Bell, M. S. (2006, December 31). Are You My Mother? [Review of the book Let the
northern
lights erase your name]. The New York Times Book Review, 156, 10.

Author of the review:
Last name first, then initials for first and middle name. Does your article have
multiple authors? - Henig, R. M.

Date of publication:
In parentheses. Year, followed by the complete spelling of month, then day. Give the date shown on the publication - month for monthlies or month and day for weekly publications. Close parentheses with a period. The month and day are included because the review appeared in a magazine, and not a
journal - (1998, August 9).

Title & subtitle of the review:
Capitalize the first word of title and subtitle, and any proper nouns - Aftershocks: For those lucky enough to recover from brain injury, life is still irrevocably altered.

Title of book being reviewed:
In brackets. Precede title with "Review of the book." Follow rules of capitalization listed above. Italicize title of book. Closing bracket is followed by a period - [Review of the book Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name].

Title & subtitle of the periodical and volume number:
Underline. This periodical does not have a volume number. Separate from page numbers with a comma. See
magazine example from proper format of title with volume number - The New York Times Book Review,

Page numbers:
If page numbers of an article run consecutively, separate beginning and ending page numbers with a hyphen. End citation with a period. If the pages of the article do not run consecutively, indicate the beginning page of the article followed by a + sign - 24.
