Women's Basketball - vs. UW-Superior
YELLOWJACKETS DOWN SAINTS
Tied at the intermission, UW-Superior used 63 percent shooting from the field in the second half to finish off the Saints 78-61 Saturday afternoon on the Yellowjackets’ home court.
Megan Downs’ nine points and Kim Huschle’s seven in the opening half helped St. Scholastica hold the lead over the host ’Jackets for all but 2:11 of the opening 20 minutes but a successful pair of late free throws by Superior ended the half and sent both teams to the locker room tied at 31-31.
Along with Superior’s hot shooting in the second half, they were also 21-of-26 from the free throw line as the Saints eventually had to resort to fouling down the stretch in trying to cut into the lead. For the game, Superior converted 30-of-38 free throws while the Saints were 13-of-19 in the game.
After Superior gained their first lead of the game at 40-39 with 14:32 to play they went on an 8-0 run that stretched a 43-41 lead into to a 10-point cushion. St. Scholastica couldn’t get any closer than seven after that as the ’Jackets took advantage of missed 3-pointers by the Saints and their own stellar free throw shooting to close out the win.
Downs’ 15 points and Huschle’s 10 led the Saints (3-5 overall, 0-1 UMAC) in the non-conference loss to the Yellowjackets (4-5, 0-4 WIAC).
