Men's Basketball - vs. AUGSBURG COLLEGE
LANGDON, MAUPINS LEAD SAINTS OVER AUGSBURG
Second triple-double in a row for Maupins
The Saints have had trouble playing with a halftime lead of late, so they tried something a little different Monday night in the Reif Center at St. Scholastica. Down three points at the intermission, the Saints came back to roll over the Augsburg Auggies by 16 in their 95-79 victory, the second win of the season for St. Scholastica.
Junior Eric Langdon had a game-high 32 points for St. Scholastica including 6-of-9 from behind the 3-point line. It was a season-high for the transfer from Mesabi Range Community College.
Senior Will Maupins seems to break one record or another each time he hits the floor this season as he registered his second triple-double in a row for the Saints with 19 points, 10 assists and a game-high 10 rebounds. Only the second triple-double in team history, he recorded the first in a loss last week to UW-Superior.
In the previous week’s action Maupins set and re-set career-highs in points in three successive games and earned the UMAC conference’s Player of the Week award.
Three other players reached double figures for the Saints in the win — Brady Zubke (18), Derek Johnson (13), and Akente Ward (12) — as the Saints recorded their largest margin of victory since a 19-point win over Minnesota-Morris in February of last season.
The victory improves the Saints overall record to 2-5 while the loss drops Augsburg to 3-2 on the year.
St. Scholastica entertains Northland College at 5 p.m. in the Reif on Saturday in the first UMAC game of the season for both teams.
