Men's Basketball - vs. UM-Duluth
SAINTS ATTEMPT FOR UPSET FALLS SHORT

St. Scholastica's upset bid against UM-Duluth fell short by 10 points in the down-the-road rivalry between the Division-III Saints and Division-II Bulldogs.

The Saints trailed the undefeated Bulldogs 35-28 at the intermission and played nearly point for point with UMD in the second half but weren't able to overcome the early deficit in the 78-68 loss on their rival's home court.

Senior Will Maupins had a career high 19 points to lead the Saints while UMD focused their defense on St. Scholastica's leading scorer, Derek Johnson, who added nine points. The third captain of the trio, Brady Zubke chipped in with 13 points in the loss.

The Saints came back from their 7-point halftime deficit to pull within four on a Maupins jumper with under three minutes to play, but UMD squelched the threat with a 6-0 run that stretched the lead to 10. Zubke's short jumper dropped the lead back to eight but the Bulldogs would hold off the Saints the rest of the way for the win.

UMD (4-0) out rebounded the Saints 35 to 19 in the contest and held the Saints to only 33 percent from behind the 3-point arc. Both teams shot 55 percent from the field.

St. Scholastica travels to Lincoln, Nebraska, following the Thanksgiving holiday where they will play in the Nebraska Wesleyan Tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25.
