Women's Volleyball - vs. Finlandia University
SAINTS SWEEP DAY WITH VICTORY OVER FINLANDIA
Clinching an undefeated day after an earlier victory over Northland College, the Saints swept all three games to defeat Finlandia University for the eighth consecutive time since 2000.
St. Scholastica’s 3-0 win on Wednesday in Ashland, Wis. improved their overall record to 19-13, tying last seasons’ overall wins total. The victory also extended a five-match winning streak for the Saints, the second longest streak this season, second only to a seven-match winning streak in mid-September.
On the attack for St. Scholastica, it was again the Berscheit sisters insuring the Lions had no hope. Senior LeAnn Berscheit led the Saints – as she’s done for seven matches throughout the season – with 15 kills, while sophomore Kati Berscheit created the opportunities, leading the Saints with 27 set assists.
Defensively, the trio of LeAnn Berscheit, sophomore Erin Niles, and sophomore Amy Thompson denied the Lions’ attacks with two blocks apiece. With 13 digs each, junior Diana Moody and sophomore Cassie Roden teamed up to shut down Finlandia’s attacks that did slip through Scholastica’s tough front-line.
As the season winds downs, the Saints are looking to continue their winning streak with a victory over Northwestern College as it will be the last conference game of the season for St. Scholastica. A win over second place Northwestern will send a message to opponents who will be competing against the qualifying Saints in the upcoming UMAC post-season tournament.
