Women's Soccer - vs. NORTHLAND
RAAB LEADS SAINTS PAST NORTHLAND INTO TOURNAMENT FINAL
The Saints scored four first-half goals on All-Conference goalkeeper Brittany Ballwanz of Northland College, then three more in the second to cruise into the 2006 UMAC Women's Soccer Championship Final on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Public Schools Stadium.
The Saints attacked the LumberJill's goal with relentless pressure in the opening 45 minutes, particularly Saints senior Keely Raab who scored three of her team's four goals in the half. For good measure, the 2006 All-UMAC performer scored the opening goal of the second half to cap a nine point day which included an assist on the team's second goal of the game.
The UMAC Player of the Year, St. Scholastica's Robin Johnson, scored twice on the day running her season total to 21 goals, and assisted on Raab's first goal.
Senior Nikki Seguin got into the act for the Saints by scoring the final goal of the game in the 59th minute.
On the other end of the field, Saints keeper Kelly Momsen directed a defense that held Northland to only two shots with only one on frame which Momsen saved. The win was Momsen's 10th shutout of the season in only 17 games. Her saves percentage of .897 leads the league.
St. Scholastica (18-2-1, 14-0-0 UMAC) moves on to the tournament final while Northland finishes their season at 5-13-1, 5-8-1.
