Women's Volleyball - vs. VITERBO UNIVERSITY
SAINTS OVERCOME 2-0 DEFICIT FOR 3-2 WIN OVER VITERBO

Head coach Dana Moore spent the first six matches of the season wishing her team would realize how good they were, and would figure out that they could have been winning instead of losing those matches.

After an 0-6 start, somebody figured something out because the Saints went on a five match win streak including their opening two matches of the CSS/UWS Border Battle held at both schools on Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday the Saints found themselves behind two games to none in their opening match at the Reif Center against Viterbo University.

But just when the old cliché “all good things must come to an end” might have been crossing anyone’s mind, the Saints turned things around just like they did at the beginning of the streak.

On their home court and with a Saints-heavy crowd cheering them on, St. Scholastica swept the next three games to take the match and keep the win streak alive.

Perhaps like sharks sensing blood in the water, once the Saints opened the wound with a 30-24 win in the third game they were relentless in their attack and pounded their way to easy 30-16 and 15-6 wins in the final two games.

Shawna Varichak had a season-high 25 kills to lead all players, and teammate LeAnn Berscheit also registered a season-high with 16 kills of her own. Amy Thompson tied her season-best total with 19 as the trio combined for 60 of the team’s 78 kills in the thriller.

The comeback win evens St. Scholastica’s season record at 6-6 while Viterbo moves to 8-8 after beating Lakehead University earlier in the day.
