Women's Volleyball - vs. Lakehead University
SAINTS PICK UP SECOND WIN AT CSS/UWS BORDER BATTLE

Behind the trio of Shawna Varichak, Amy Thompson and LeAnn Berscheit, St. Scholastica rebounded from a game one loss to take the next three in a 3-1 triumph over Lakehead University on Friday evening.

Varichak had a match-leading 16 kills, Thompson added 14, and Berscheit chipped in with 12 as the Saints upped their season mark to 5-6 in 2006.

For the second match in a row for the Saints, game one went into ‘overtime’ but this time they were on the short end of the 34-32 score.

Evening the match at one with game two’s 30-25 win, the Saints got on a roll that the Thunderwolves (0-2 overall) couldn’t stop.

The turn around is in stark contrast to their opening six matches of the season in which the Saints lost all six, three by 0-3 scores, and another when they were up 2-1 and ahead 20-11 in the fourth game.

Since  falling to Nebraska Wesleyan in the opening match of the Sugarloaf Classic in Winona, Minn. last weekend, the Saints have strung together five consecutive wins.

Action in the Border Battle travels across the bridge to Minnesota on Saturday as the teams will face off in the Reif Center on CSS’s campus beginning with a pair of 10 a.m. games.

The Saints take on Viterbo University at noon, then close out the Battle with a 2 p.m. match against UW-Superior.
