Women's Soccer - vs. Lawrence (Wis.) University
RAAB'S OT GOAL LIFTS SAINTS OVER VIKINGS
Senior Keely Raab netted her second goal of the season just before the first overtime period was set to expire in the Saints' 2-1 win over Lawrence University at the Luther College Classic in Decorah, Iowa on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints dominated action all game long, registering 24 shots on goal compared to only three for Lawrence. In the defensive end, the Saints controlled the ball as well in only allowing the Vikings a single corner kick opportunity while gaining 11 themselves.
Lawrence goalkeeper Candice Gangl kept the Vikings in the match, albeit somewhat shell-shocked from the Saints attack.
The Vikings scored first to take a 1-0 lead a little less than three minutes into the game.
St. Scholastica's Kristy Shelerud -- playing in her first game of the year after finally battling back from a season-ending injury midway through the 2005 schedule -- knotted things up at one in the 35th minute, and the match went into half time with that same 1-1 score.
Though the Saints pounded at the net with nine shots on goal in the second half, they couldn't solve the wall that Gangl had erected.
The 10-minute overtime period was all Saints as they didn't allow a shot from the Vikings and took three of their own before Raab finally got one past Gangl with 30 seconds remaining.
The win keeps the Saints undefeated at 2-0-1 on the year.
