The Saints lost a 3-2 heartbreaker Wednesday night in Menomonie, Wisconsin to UW-Stout, losing a 2 to 1 games lead and 20-11 lead in the fourth game before falling to the host Blue Devils.
St. Scholastica (-05) took the first and third games by identical 30-26 scores. They were nearly in a position to sweep the match but lost game two by a slim 30-28 score.
They broke out strongly in the fourth game to take a nine point lead late in the match, but after consecutive time-outs the Blue Devils rallied to tie the score at 25 before moving on to steal the game from the Saints.
Stout (4-1) led the whole way in the deciding game, eventually clinching the match victory with a 15-9 win.
Newcomer Amy Thompson led the Saints in kills with 15 -- her first game this season in double-figures -- as well as in service aces with three.
Senior LeAnn Berscheit (13 K) and Shawna Varichak (11 K) also reach double-figures in kills.
Diana Moody had a strong match as the defensive specialist by registering 35 digs and reaching a .955 serve receive percentage (only two errors in 42 opportunities).
