Women's Soccer - vs. UW-STOUT
SAINTS PICK UP FIRST WIN OF SEASON Johnson nets two in win over UW-Stout

Sophomore Robin Johnson may be picking up where she left off last year when she led St. Scholastica in points as her two goals today twice pushed the Saints (1-0-1) into the lead over visiting UW-Stout (0-2-0), the hosts eventually taking the match with the Blue Devils 3-1 in an Advantage Emblem Cup match on the Saints’ home field.

Johnson netted the first goal of the season for the Saints in the 15th minute of the opening half to stake the Saints to a 1-0 lead. Her second goal, in the 72nd minute, proved to be the game-winner as she gave St. Scholastica the lead once again after Stout had tied the score shortly before the half.

Senior Keely Raab’s unassisted goal with eight minutes left in the game proved to be an insurance score for the Saints.

In goal for St. Scholastica and picking up her initial win of the season was junior Kelly Momsen who registered four saves on the day and now has 15 in only two games.

Betsey Palmiscno and Dani Determan assisted on Johnson’s first goal while Michelle DeBoer and Kayla Heinzen picked up assists on her second.

Carli Rindt scored the lone goal for the Blue Devils, and goalkeeper Jessica Halverson registered 14 saves in the loss.

St. Scholastica dominated possession for most of the game and out shot Stout by a 35 to 9 margin. Nine different Saints took shots on the day while limiting the Blue Devils to only four players who were able to take a crack at Momsen.

Their defensive scheme so befuddled the visiting Blue Devils that it only allowed one corner kick all game while the Saints registered nine corner opportunities.

The Saints resume action next weekend as they travel to Decorah, Iowa to play in the Luther College Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
