Transfer Student Nursing Program Selection Process

St. Scholastica has been welcoming transfer students into its nursing program for years. The Department of Nursing is committed to being responsive to the needs of transfer students.

More applicants means more competition

In the past few years, there has been a national and statewide increase in the number of students interested in nursing. Accordingly, the competition among students for acceptance into nursing programs, including St. Scholastica, has risen. The following information details the selection process for transfer students entering the nursing program.

Space reserved in our nursing program for transfer students

The nursing major accepts 112 students into each class, and 20 seats are reserved for transfer students having earned less than 48 semester credits at the College. Transfer students who complete 48 or more credits at the College compete for one of 92 seats available based on their CSS GPA.

12 semester credits of coursework must be earned at CSS before application into the nursing program.

The following criteria are used to rank-order transfer students for selection into one of the 20 reserved seats of the nursing program. The criteria are listed in order of importance:

  1. Number of credits earned/or in process at the College. Although not required, 32 credits are recommended to be competitive.
  2. Meeting the minimum nursing entrance GPA established by the entering cohort of 92 students. This GPA may vary from year to year, but will be no lower than 3.0.
  3. A College of St. Scholastica GPA of 3.0 or higher (established upon completing 32 or more credits earned at the College) or a Transfer GPA of 3.0 or greater is needed for application eligibility. A Transfer GPA cannot replace an established CSS GPA for eligibility.
