Student Outdoor Adventure Retreat: Backpacking


Starting college with a pack, hiking shoes, and 10-12 of your new friends just screams adventure and good times. Come along for one of our backpacking trips where you will travel scenic routes and share your life story. The muscle aches will be worth it when you return to schools with lots of new memories and friendships to help you get through the transition to your new home as CSS. Choose between two backpacking trip options, each one is set in an amazing location and each have their own unique appeal and challenge.

Superior Hiking Trail

Trip Difficulty: Easy/Moderate

Each day you will hike 3 - 6 miles for a total of 12 - 16 miles while carrying a 30 - 50lb pack. One Day off from hiking, we will rock climb that day. Total mileage will be 14.5 miles.

Due to increase in demand on our SOAR trips, we are bringing back one of out past trip options... Backpacking the Superior Hiking Trail! On this trip, you will hike along a section of the 310-mile Superior Hiking Trail. This footpath follows the ridgeline along the Northshore of Lake Superior. As you travel along the trail, you may have the opportunity to view boreal forests, the Sawtooth Mountains, babbling brooks, rushing waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. Travel through forests of birch, aspen, pine, fir, and cedar. When you arrive at camp each day you will get settled in and enjoy sleeping under the starts. When you catch a shooting star, you can decide if you would like to share your wish with your trip-mates. The guides are happy to talk about college at St. Scholastica and their life experience so far... so grill them and get answers to those questions you have yet to ask.

Trip Difficulty: Moderate

Each day you will hike 6 - 9 miles (5.6, 7.2, 8.8, and 6.9) for a total of ~30 miles while carrying a 30 - 50lb pack.

2 Guides/10 Participants (maybe 12 participants)

During this trip, you will hike along part of the 42-mile North Country National Scenic Trail. The trail hugs the shoreline of Lake Superior, providing hikers with amazing views of sandstone cliffs, sand dunes, waterfalls, lakes, and forest. Your days are filled with 6-9 miles of hiking to new a campsite each night. In the evenings, you cook, hangout, and build relationships that will help you get off to a good start at St. Scholastica. While on this trip, the leaders will share their own knowledge and wisdom on how to have a good time and prepare you for the next few years that you will spend in college. Don't be shy, if you have questions they are there to provide you with answers.
