Health Information Management
Online GraduateThe College of St. Scholastica was the first college in the nation to grant a bachelor's degree in this professional field. Our program has been accredited for over 50 years and is considered one of the premier programs in the nation. Graduates are qualified to take the national registration examination to earn professional recognition as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
A major in Health Information Management provides students with professional knowledge necessary to assume management responsibility for health records and health information systems in a variety of health related settings, including hospitals, clinics, long term care settings, consulting firms, government agencies, insurance companies and software vendors. It is ideal for the person who likes the health care environment but does not want direct patient contact.

ATHENS Project
As the healthcare industry is being transformed by health information technologies of this type, students must be prepared to effectively use these tools in their future healthcare workplaces. Students in the HIIM Program at The College of St. Scholastica have significant levels of hands-on experience using a state-of-the-art electronic medical record system to gain confidence and competence in using this type of information technology as a tool to enhance the quality of their professional practice.
