1. Preparation

  • A 4 year nursing degree from an accredited program conferred prior to the start of the program
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Current, unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in the state in which clinicals will occur
  • For new baccalaureate graduates, admission will be conditional pending licensure by the end of the summer semester
  • Applicants to the PMHNP track must have previous psychiatric nursing experience. 4-year nursing degree from an accredited program conferred prior to the start of the program.

In Nursing CAS you will be required to choose your desired track and campus to attend. Applicants who designate more than one track (ex. FNP & PMHNP) will not be considered for admission. Applicants may apply for more than one campus location but may only select one track for consideration.

Duluth, St. Cloud and Phoenix, AZ

There is one application cycle per year from August to December with the start term of Summer (May).  Application materials must be submitted to Nursing CAS by our deadline of December 15, for admissions consideration. The application review process will start after the deadline of December 15; applicants will be notified of admissions decision in mid-February.

A complete Nursing CAS application includes:

  1. All official transcripts.
    1. If you have previously attended CSS you must request your transcripts to be sent to Nursing CAS. Please contact One Stop Student Services.
    2. No high school transcripts are required.
  2. Essay uploaded
    • The essay should represent your highest level of academic writing and demonstrate ability to participate in a rigorous, fast-paced academic program. Prepare a one page (maximum) essay, typed and double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman font and one-inch margins, answering the following:

      How do you see Advanced Practice Registered Nursing influencing your professional career and society?  

If you have international transcripts or non-citizen status, you will need to complete the online program application and send additional documentation. Please see the International Admissions Policy for complete details.

There are many financial aid options available to help you pay for your education. Contact the OneStop Student Services office early in the application process at (877) 287-8716 or onestop@css.edu.

3. Post-Completion

  • After you are notified a decision has been made regarding your application, log into your application portal to accept or decline using the Decision Response form.
  • Submit $750 non-refundable deposit.
  • Annually submit proof of coverage by professional liability insurance ($3 million for each occurrence) and nurse practitioner (NP) students must carry NP student liability.
  • Meet specific health requirements of the School of Nursing:
    1. Physical examination by a licensed healthcare provider.
    2. Annual Mantoux test or chest x-ray.
    3. Submit Student Immunization Form.
  • Annually pass a state-mandated criminal background check for all Minnesota nursing students prior to first week of classes.
  • Submit a copy of current nursing license (to be current and on file at all times).
  • Submit a copy of current CPR certification (to be current and on file at all times).

You may be eligible to receive transfer credits for coursework you’ve completed. See our Graduate Transfer Credit Policy for more information and complete a  Credit Transfer Application Form. This form can be completed and provided to your program advisor and/or program department contact.

Based on need in the undergraduate program, we offer graduate assistantships mostly in clinical and skills lab/simulation settings. These opportunities are available in the Twin Cities area, St. Cloud, and Duluth. There are approximately 25+ positions each year. Interested students would have to apply for the positions and would be chosen based on need and fit for the position. The positions are competitively compensated and students can opt for tuition reduction.
