Spring Philanthropy Week 2018 | March 19 - 23

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in Alumni Engagement's annual Philanthropy Week March 19-23. The weeklong events focused on giving -- of time, of talent, and of treasure -- and the importance of fostering a culture of philanthropy as students and as alumni. We are all here because of someone who came before us, and future Saints will thrive because of the legacy we will leave for them.

Monday, Mar. 19: COMMUNITY

We kicked off the week with hidden treats. Students channeled their inner Sherlock Holmes to search for 100 Grand Bars and chocolate gold coins scattered around campus. The wrappers of these candies contained fun facts about alumni donations; a great reminder of the generous support our alumni have provided to the CSS community.

Tuesday, Mar. 20: LOVE OF LEARNING

Giving Rocks! Everyone was invited to decorate a keepsake rock with a message that spoke to the importance of giving or living out our Benedictine Values. Rocks were taken, left behind, and some were planted along campus to inspire others who might find them in the days to come. Students also emptied their loose change to #FillStormsDish, a small but meaningful philanthropic effort to support the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Wednesday, Mar. 21: STEWARDSHIP

With the help from our friends from Sounds Unlimited, we hosted a photo booth in our Student Union and encouraged students to hop in front of the curtain (with props in hand!) to pose for a picture while expressing their gratitude to the College's donors. A thankful shout-out to all of the brave souls who overcame their self-consciousness to ham it up for our camera!

Thursday, Mar. 22: RESPECT

Food insecurity impacts the Twin Ports communities and our own St. Scholastica community, as well. According to recent data, one in four CSS students worry about having enough food. To help address this need, Thursday's event called for food donations to stock up the CSS Food Shelf. As an added bonus, everyone who donated was entered in a drawing to win an Apple Watch.

Friday, Mar. 23: HOSPITALITY

We started the week with treats and ended the week with sweets. Blue and gold frosted cupcakes were shared, spare change was dropped to #FillStormsDish, and food donations continued to pour in to serve our Food Shelf. As a result, more than 40 food items were donated to students in-need and one lucky student, Lori Huseby '21, scored herself the coveted Apple Watch prize.
