We love a good love story, and this Valentine's Day we are honored to share over 50 of them! Happy reading from your friendly Alumni Association and from these adorable couples who found each other, and love, during their time together at St. Scholastica.
We met at St. Scholastica through friends.
That's hard to choose, we've had many great memories at CSS including going to all the concerts on campus, Mayfest, alumni baseball events, going to the Port to get smoothies and making lifelong friendships.
We live in Duluth with our one year old golden retriever, Aly. Jane is working as an Occupational Therapist at Essentia Health and Jeff is working as a Probation Officer for Arrowhead Regional Corrections.
The day we got married it started raining after our church wedding ceremony. Our photographer suggested going to St. Scholastica to get some indoor wedding photos and they turned out beautifully in front of Tower hall and near the windows across from the Chapel.
Bret was teaching high school in St. Cloud and was the music director for the high school play. Alex's close friend was the choreographer and she introduced the two of them at the final performance of the show.
We have made so many good friends together because of our time CSS. Our favorite St. Scholastica memories definitely include faculty and staff outings, parties, and game nights!
Alex works at Essentia as a Physical Therapist and Bret is the Dean of the School of Arts and Letters at CSS.
We met while running cross country together the summer before school started in 2001.
Spending time together during our nightly walks around Duluth, or up to the soccer fields where we would see shooting stars and the northern lights.
Josh teaches chemistry at Roosevelt High school in Minneapolis and Gina owns a dental practice in Andover. We live in Andover with our five children who kept us very busy!
We both look back fondly at our time together at St Scholastica. We love visiting Duluth and showing our kids the campus.
We met at breakfast in the GDR, Alicia's roommate knew Josh because of early move in and introduced them. Alicia & Josh became great friends first. Their friendship turned into a little something more at Snowball and they started dating in April of 2011. They finally tied the knot on Sept. 14, 2018.
They currently live in Oakdale, MN. Alicia is the Assistant Program Manager for the 3M Fitness Centers and Josh is a Project Coordinator for Tapemark.
They're spending their first married Valentine's day snorkeling off of the coast of Maui!
We met in high school. We always knew of each other but never really were friends. Our senior year of high school our best friends introduced us to each other and we started hanging out as a group. Coincidentally, we discovered that we both wanted to attend The College of St. Scholastica. On September 19th of our freshman year at CSS, our friendship turned into something deeper when we began dating on the top of Knob Rock in Hartley Park.
We decided to buy tickets to the Minnesota Wild game from the student activities office and rode down to Minneapolis together. While at the game, Tara was selected to participate in a giant tricycle race on the ice in between periods. We have both been to Wild games before, but never together. It was a night full of excitement, laughs, and fun!
Tara is currently getting her master's degree in Occupational Therapy at the Health Science Center at CSS. Evan is a sales consultant and marketer for Arrow Printing Inc.
We have been dating for 4 1/2 years and are loving every moment of this journey we are on together! We cannot wait to see what the future will bring!
During Freshman orientation. We both got jobs at the Reif Center as Work Study Attendants and we met at the Reif Center Work Study Orientation meeting.
Since we dated for all four of our college years together - there are literally too many to count. Probably our most discussed time was the night that we got pizza after a work shift at the Reif, went to my room in the suites and watched the cartoon network and talked about our families, our high school lives, our future dreams, and laughed until well past curfew. That was the day that we can recall when our adventure together began.
Tim is an Administrator of Quality Services at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Melanie is a physical therapist and the CEO/Founder of a nonprofit rehabilitation and adaptive fitness center called ExercisAbilities, also in Rochester MN. We have three beautiful girls, one in high school, one in middle school, and one in elementary school. We keep busy with their activities and enjoy traveling all over the world when we can. We have recently visited South Africa, the British Isles, and New Zealand.
We have great memories of our years at St. Scholastica, our many friends that we made, and know that we would have never met and built a wonderful life together if we had not both made that important choice to be a Saint!
We met during the Outdoor Pursuit Orientation - which allowed us to move into college a week before official move in day and do a 4-day Outdoor Adventure (Anthony went Kayaking in the Apostle Islands and Danika went canoeing in the BWCA).
Visiting our roommates studying abroad in Ireland over Spring Break.
Anthony is the owner of Underdog Wealth Management, a financial planning firm in Maple Grove, MN. Anthony stays busy coaching our youngest daughter's basketball and softball teams as well as doing a daddy/daughter dance with our older daughter. Danika is an Associate Professor for the HIIM Department at The College of St. Scholastica and also owns her own Privacy and Security Consulting Business. She just finished up a three year term on the board of directors for the American Health Information Management Association.
We will be celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary later this year and are busy raising our two daughters - Taylor (11) and Piper (10).
The two of us met in Bill Miller’s history class our sophomore year of college. We would plan group study sessions to spend more time together.
Exploring Duluth together, including our first date which was in Canal Park.
Tatum has been working as a labor and delivery nurse downtown Minneapolis for 4.5 years. Ben is a physical therapist who owns his own company since he graduated in 2018.
After meeting at CSS and dating for years, we tied the knot in July of 2019! We have a 2 year old pup named Leonidas who we absolutely adore.
We would have loved to have the perfect love story of meeting while studying in Storms or during a study break ...but, in fact, we met through mutual friends...at Grandma's Sports Garden. We really raised the bar with how we met...no pun intended. And we have been inseparable since!
The Groves! Time to bring them back 🙂
We are living the life in Duluth, MN with our little kiddos, Cayden and Riya. Bemen works for Young and Associates Insurance (don't miss this subtle hint to contact him for your personal/business insurance needs) and Ayesha works for Maurices Corp Offices in their Marketing - Promotions department.
We got married on Sept 15th, 2007. We have two kids: Cayden is 6 and Riya is 4.

We met the very first day our freshman year, but did not start dating until our master's year when we were cadaver lab partners...and the rest is history.
Themed house parties and Grandma's Sports Garden.
We are raising our three little girls in Montana. Steve is supervising the Cardiac rehab clinic at the hospital and Janessa is running her own personal training business.
St. Scholastica was an important part of our history and is one of few places that a Caribbean girl can meet a Montana boy and fall in love!?
His roommate, Rob Ankarlo and my cousin, Amy Rager introduced us. Both of them went to CSS too. He didn't really want to meet me because he thought I was someone else.
Seeing him for the first time in the library! I thought, "Who is this cocky guy in the long leather coat?" Then I realized it was Patrick, who I had met the night before on his birthday.
Jamie is a Realtor with J.S. Realty & Patrick is a teacher at Carlton Schools.
We will celebrate 27 years of marriage this July 31st! The picture with Pat in the white sweater is our engagement picture from around 1993.
Mutual friends' study group for anatomy and physiology.
Him playing on the original football team and me traveling to watch ALL the games (including in Chicago)!
We live in Atlanta, GA with our goldendoodle, Rosie. Nicole is an ESOL high school biology teacher. Ross is a physical therapist for Benchmark Physical Therapy.
We have reunions with our best friends that we met at CSS as often as we can! We will always be grateful for the relationships we have made in our time there. Some of our greatest memories!
We met in Chemistry class.
Attending sporting events with our friends.
We live in Crystal, MN with our two dogs and both work at medical device companies.
We had mutual friends that were starting to date, (now Graham and Tara McCullough) and we would be their respective "wingmen." We ended up at the same parties and social events, and soon after, we were finding excuses to just hang out with each other. The rest is history, and now we're married!
The Johnny Holm dance circa 2013; it was the day we officially started dating.
We live in the Minneapolis area. Pat is an Enrollment Counselor at Capella University and Anna is a Physician Assistant at Northwest Family Clinics.
Not only did we find love, but all of our closest friends were also CSS alum. Going to Scholastica was a great decision!
Johnny Holm's Dance.
Married; living in superior. Erin is a nurse at Essentia and John is a lead at Altec Industries.
We met at Johnny Holm's of 2013. Erin approached John at the dance because she saw his name on the football roster when we used to work the ticket booth. We spent the whole night together talking and the rest is history six years later!
In Java Programming I with Diana Johnson.
Going on Computer Club trips together.
Alyssa is a SysAdmin at a local marketing agency and Ben is a stay-at-home dad/writer.
I played football and she was a football manager.

We are both working. She's a Home Health Nurse and I am an administrative assistant.
We met playing intramural volleyball at CSS. Brianna joined the team because she loves playing volleyball; Cory joined the team to meet girls :)
Getting 2nd place in the Mud Volleyball tournament and the Johnny Holm's dance!
We got married on August 4th, 2018! Cory is a Physical Therapist in Cloquet and Brianna is an Occupational Therapist at Essentia Health in Duluth. We recently got an adorable Corgi puppy named Copper!
Thank you to Alec French for bugging Cory long enough that he finally worked up the courage to ask Brianna out :)
We met in Physics class our first semester of sophomore year (September 2011). We noticed each other that first day as it was a Packer game day and we both had Packer jerseys on in Minnesota ;)
While we experienced everything Scholastica had to offer, and almost every memory of the activities there has each other in it; we also have more simple memories of walking along the trails behind campus which we often did between classes or after tests. It was relaxing and peaceful and we do really miss that.
We both work for the Mayo Clinic as Physical Therapists. Anna (Eau Claire, WI) and Al (Osseo, WI).
It might have been fate, but when we look back on things and where we came from (myself from Upper Michigan and Al from Wisconsin), we feel blessed that we both chose St. Scholastica, we found each other, and everything was brought full circle.
Josh and I met in high school. He had his car parked at a friends house & I accidentally wrote on his car window wishing him luck at state baseball (truth is, the message wasn't meant for him nor was he in baseball). I ended up messaging him to apologize for writing on his car after the fact. We have been talking ever since and continued on to CSS together.
Hammocking near the Valley of Silence and playing/watching Josh play soccer.
I am currently a 5th grade teacher at an elementary school in Grand Forks, ND. Josh is in his first of four years of medical school at the University of North Dakota.
We knew of each other, but never talked until one night I was walking through the TV lounge and Tony was there. I stopped and we talked for quite a while. We had our first date a week later, during Mayfest 1992, and the rest is history.
Tony and Steve Grinnell reserved a banquet room at the Holiday Inn for Jen (Rademacher) Grinnell and my 21st birthday, as our birthdays are a week apart. They blindfolded us and when we arrived to the banquet room, all our CSS friends were there to surprise us! Tony and Steve organized a DJ, food and decorations, for a fabulous 21st birthday celebration with our CSS family. Good times.
Tony is the Band Director at ROCORI HS in Cold Spring. I am a Respiratory Therapist at St. Cloud Hospital. We have been married for 23 yrs, live in Cold Spring, and have 3 kids. David - 15, William - 11, and Natalie - 5.
We still consider CSS our 2nd home and now enjoy taking our kids to see the campus.
We met through classmates, and our paths began to cross often. We were in Dr. Hensley's class together, played Ultimate Frisbee with a group of friends, and had a lot of the same interests.
There are so many it is hard to pick! But in April of their senior year, Matthew got on a plane for the first time ever and flew from his internship in Colorado to surprise Alyssa at her Senior Art Capstone reception.
Matthew works in the Cardiac Department at FirstLight Health System and coaches cross country skiing. Alyssa is finishing her final semester of her MFA at Bowling Green State University.
We are getting married September 2019, and Dr. Hensley psychology has agreed to be the officiant at our wedding! When we began dating, we were in his Lifespan Psychology class, were we learned about love (among other things), so we thought there was no better person to help us take the step in becoming a married couple!
We initially met the first week of freshman year through mutual friends. We saw each other off and on until junior year, when Amanda was Rob's physics TA. We started dating at the end of that semester.
Johnny Holm's concerts at the Wellness Center.
Rob is a pharmacist at Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake, and Amanda is a physical therapist at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. We have two amazing kids, Hudson (3) and Hailey (1).
Our 3 year old thinks it's very cool that his mom and dad went to school in a castle!
Keith IM'd Laura's friend Jess, and showed up at Laura's 19th birthday party shortly afterwards. We started dating in 2003 and have been together ever since.
Snowball dances and parties in the Groves (RIP!).
Keith teaches psychology in Superior and Laura works for the College...in the Alumni office...collecting love stories like this one 🙂
Our two kids (Layla, 8 & Felix, 4) love spending time on campus; our daughter is convinced she will be a St. Scholastica Saint some day, too!
We met through our friend, Jessica DeVinck. Jessica grew up with Matt in Superior, WI and Mallory met Jessica by living across the hall from her freshman year.
There are too many to name, and a lot of them involve some of our closest friends that we made at CSS. We spent a lot of time at the "Beach House" with our friends (the name Mallory and her roommates gave the house that they lived in) and we really enjoyed playing Oozeball during Mayfest.
We recently moved from Duluth, MN to Arizona and are living in Mesa with our two rescue mutts. Mallory is loving her new job as an Account Executive at Elevate Medical Solutions, which is a medical coding services company. Matt is still working at Morgan Stanley, as he had the opportunity to transfer from the Duluth office to the Scottsdale office. We're enjoying every minute of our new adventure down here in Arizona!
After dating throughout college and eventually both discussing our desire to marry, Matt told Mallory that he would not propose until she finished reading the entire Harry Potter series. (Matt loves Harry Potter and Mallory is not much of a fan). So with that, Mallory started vigorously reading the series, but she never ended up having to finish - He proposed to her while she was in the midst of reading the 5th book :) This September, we will be celebrating five years of marriage.
At a concert in Duluth.
Taking part in the homecoming festivities Since Cole was a football player.
Cole is the Director of Health Information management at Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center. Samantha works for St. Louis County.
After each of us graduated from CSS we both decided that our hearts were with Duluth and made it home. We have a five year old golden retriever/yellow lab named Cooper. We recently celebrated our first year of Marriage in August.
At a Halloween party on campus. At the time, Corey was slightly more interested in securing a date than I was. But more evident than his persistence was his kindness, and I quickly learned how genuine of a person he was.
There are so many memories. Early on, one of the best memories was our second date walking through Gethsemane Cemetery. I dropped a piece of jewelry, and days later, Corey went back and found it. Later on, as parents, one of my favorite memories was bringing our newborn son to his first Saints Baseball game at Wade Stadium.
Corey, after beginning his career as an elementary school teacher and I heading to grad school, we both returned to CSS as professionals. Corey served as the Head Baseball Coach from 2009-2019 and I'm a staff person in the Career Services Office and an adjunct faculty. We are busy raising two hilarious little boys, ages 6 and 3, comically navigating the art of work-life integration.
Having a community of friends from this place makes our being together even more valuable. Our wedding had over 90 people from CSS and now, as this place includes building our careers, that community keeps growing. It's something we're truly thankful for.
We met as volunteer ski coaches through Courage Duluth. We were receiving volunteer hours for our programs when we met at the base of a ski hill. Chris asked if I wanted to ride the chair lift up with him. That is how our story began!
We went to many sporting events (I played soccer at CSS), we loved seeing the Johnny Holm Band play at the "old" Reif Center, and the Snowball Formal at Greysolon Ballroom was a favorite too! Of course, we loved Duluth, the beautiful north-shore and the many friendships and memories made at CSS!
Chris is the President and CEO at HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese, IL. This is his second year as the CEO. Previously, he was a Director of Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls, WI as well as a Physical Therapist his first few years of his career. I taught Kindergarten for 15 years in Eau Claire, WI and then worked at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in their Teacher Education Program for 2 years. When we moved to Illinois, I decided to become active on hospital committees, serving on the Leadership Foundation Council and I substitute teach at our boys' schools from time to time as well. We have two amazing boys, Caden (10) and Cooper (8). As a family, we love sports, traveling, and spending time with our family and friends.
We met in early 1998 and were married in the summer of 2000. We are celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary this summer (time flies!) We still visit the Duluth area and have introduced our boys to our alma mater (see one of the attached photos for their first visit back in 2013). They think it's pretty spectacular (the castle on the hill)! They have even said maybe they will become future Saints!
We both lived on 2nd floor of Somers freshman year.
Snowball, hanging out with our friends. CSS still feels like home to us!
Regina: works for Big Stone Therapies as clinic manager of Hendricks clinic, therapeutic pain specialist and returning to school for fellowship in pain science. Matt: works security.
Our oldest daughter, Katie, will be a freshman at CSS in the Fall 2020
We met in the training room. Mike was prepping for his senior baseball season and Shannon was rehabbing from surgery after tearing her ACL during her senior soccer season.
Star-gazing up at the soccer field!
We live in Duluth with our daughter, Blakely, who's 3 1/2 years old and our two dogs - Addie and Benji. Mike works at Reliable Insurance Agency and Shannon works at Broadridge Advisor Solutions. We love spending time outdoors - hiking and exploring the north shore.
We met through mutual friends at CSS.
Hanging out on the lawn on warm sunny days.
It is our 12th wedding anniversary this September but we have been together since Spring Semester of 2003. We live in south Minneapolis with our 5 year old Louis and 8 year George. Louis will be attending Kindergarten at Annunciation Catholic School and George is currently a 2nd grader. When we are not working (Matt works in IT/HR at Lifetime and I (Renee) am a Realtor), we are usually at hockey rink with our boys. Pretty fun!
Thank you CSS for the great education and allowing us to find each other!!!
We met during preseason the fall of our freshman year. Mitch played football and I played soccer.
It’s very difficult to pick one favorite memory out of all of the great ones we made throughout the four years at St. Scholastica, but we loved to explore the beautiful city and going to all the must see spots.
I am currently in PA school at Des Moines university. Mitch is an Athletic Trainer at a local high school through the company Athletico.
We have two awesome dogs, Tucker and Sully who we love very much.
Zack had met Saydie’s roommate during welcome week. He was walking through the halls of Somers Suites that weekend and noticed their door was open, so Saydie’s roommate invited him in and introduced the 2 of them. Zack and Saydie got to know each other well and had many classes together, as both were social work majors. They started dating near the end of their junior year.
Spending many hours together in Storms, sometimes actually doing homework but most of the time ordering food and watching Friends.
Zack and Saydie live together in Stillwater. Zack works as a probation officer in Washington County and Saydie is a social worker at Children’s Hospital in St. Paul.
Zack and Saydie are excited to be getting married in September! They took their engagement pictures at CSS.
We were high school sweethearts and just ended up picking the same college.
There was a crazy snow storm one year and Anthony was a freshman at the time and Shelby was a sophomore. Anthony trekked through the snow from the dorms to Shelby's apartment to eat lots of pizza rolls and binge watch Netflix and it was just a really nice cozy day in. We also met many of our closest friends at CSS, so any memory of us hanging out with them is a good one too.
Anthony is the General Manger at Flagship in Canal Park. He helped a friend of his open the store last May. Shelby is an Executive Administrative Assistant for UMD's Mathematics & Statistics Department. We are married and live in Duluth.
Although we didn't meet at St. Scholastica, we did grow in our relationship at CSS. We found love at CSS (sort of).
We met at a party put on by the Men’s Hockey team.
Matt’s favorite memory is having breakfast together every morning at Einstein Bagels the spring of our senior year. My favorite memory is watching Matt play hockey, and seeing him on the sidelines at my soccer games.
Matt is a Branch Manager at the Wayzata Enterprise. I am a Family Medicine/Obstetrics Physician Assistant in Saint Cloud. We purchased our first home together in Maple Grove, MN this past fall.
Matt played hockey at Saint Scholastica, and I played for the women’s soccer team. We credit our meeting to getting involved and expanding our social circles to the point where our friends and teammates could bring us together. Our time at Saint Scholastica holds some very happy memories and we could not be more thankful for the opportunity to receive an outstanding education, be a part of two very successful sports teams, make friends that will last a lifetime, and most importantly, meet and fall in love with each other.
Set up through a mutual friend playing hockey in Hermantown.
Taking our wedding party back to campus to take pictures after our wedding (eight alumni in our party) and carrying the "We found love at CSS" banner for the 100 year celebration!
Molly is a Recruitment and Admissions specialist working at Pine Technical and Community college pursuing her doctorate in Higher Education Administration. Andy in a Physical Therapist and Clinic Director at the North Branch clinic of Physical Therapy Consultants.
We are each children of alumni - both of our mothers attended the college. We are keeping busy living in East Central Minnesota and expecting our second child due May 1st, 2020!
We met in Bill Hodapp's Latin I class - it was Harmony's first day of college, and her first class!
When Jess came to visit Harmony on her study abroad trip in Louisburgh, Ireland in the spring of 2006!
Jess is a doctor of Archaeology and Harmony is an early childhood mental health consultant. Still living in Duluth, with two beautiful children!
Harmony was inspired to ask Jess out after seeing his performance in the CSS Theater's production of Dracula (2004)!
Graham met Tara in Storm's Den freshman year but we met again in the street outside of Blackwater on Graham's 21st birthday.
That's a hard question- we have so many! Probably Snowball junior year when we went as "friends" or going to homecoming festivities senior year. We would meet up for lunch in between classes and always studied outside of the Mitchell Auditorium.
We currently live in Minneapolis where Tara works as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Native American Community Clinic. She graduated with her doctorate in nursing from CSS in 2018. Graham is a Senior Channel Development Representative for JAMF. We have a dog, Chester, that we are obsessed with.
Our wedding was full of CSS grads! Our Dj, videographers, and photographer were all former CSS graduates. Shout out to Crunchy Bunch, Rebel Rabbit Photography, Badger Claw Digital Media, and Flutter Brothers Productions.
Somers Hall - Jake was a freshman, and Keely delivered a root beer float to his dorm. We started dating three years later after reconnecting at an Alternative Spring Break planning meeting with campus ministry.
Hiking the trails and studying in the new Science Building.
Keely is an Occupational Therapist, and Jake is a RN, both at The Mayo Clinic St. Mary's hospital.
We got engaged last winter cross country skiing at Piedmont, and are getting married in June!
We met setting up for a concert in the old auditorium. However, the sparks flew when I interviewed him to be a peer advisor later that year.
Watching planet earth on the big screen TV behind the coffee shop.
We live in Florida. Professionally, Dragomir is an orthopedic surgeon and I am finishing my nurse practitioner clinicals. Personally, we just welcomed our first child into the world last September, and love bringing her on our road trips, kayaking adventures, and can't wait to show her CSS.
Laundry room at Scholastica. Taylor was washing clothes for the sports teams and Joshua came into the room and asked "Are you related to the first president? because you're sure washing a ton" (worked like a charm).
Being a part of different sports programs and paving the way for volleyball players and football players to date, haha. Science Majors and Tower Majors can work!
Taylor is a Nurse for Health Foundations Birth Center for Mothers who want a Natural Birth. Joshua is a Radio Morning Show Host for Cool Country 100.9FM; he has a billboard right on 35!
Working out at the Reif!
There are so many, it’s hard to pick. Having our wedding photos taken there brought our relationship full circle and was very, very special!
Jessica is a nurse practitioner in a family practice clinic in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Eddy is the head baseball coach at concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin. We have two awesome kids! Isaac is 12 and Piper is nine. Life is busy, but we are very, very blessed!
St. Scholastica has been a running theme in our lives. We both went to school there. We both worked there. We met our forever friends there. It is a very special place!
We both majored in Elementary Ed and were in every education class together all the way through!
We loved being able to support each other at games (Tyler played baseball and Courtney played hockey)!
Tyler teaches 2nd grade at South Ridge Elementary and is South Ridge's head high school baseball coach. Courtney teaches 4th grade at Churchill Elementary and is Cloquet's head high school girls hockey coach.
We have two little Saints of our own; Addison and Aria!
Peer Advising retreat. Danielle pulled Sean into the pool at the Radisson.
Running through sprinklers at night on the soccer field!
Danielle is a Physical Therapist. Sean works in college admissions.
2 kids! Natalie (4) and Luke (1).
First day of freshman year! Lots of freshmen were walking around the dorms meeting each other, and that's when we met. We ended up in the same friend group, so were around each other all the time. We started dating a couple years later, and the rest is history!
The friends we made! We have such an amazing group of lifelong friends, and we were fortunate enough to have mostly mutual friends, who we still get to see at least yearly. We really can't think of CSS without thinking of our great friends.
Kyle is an RN in the neuro/trauma ICU at Essentia in Duluth and is also in Nurse Practitioner school. Adrianne is a mostly stay at home mom to our 3 daughters (ages 9, 7, and 4), but works a bit as an Occupational Therapist at St. Luke's and as an adjunct at CSS in the OT department. We'll celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary in June!
We met in our MBA capstone abroad seminar. This included a couple weeks of courses before traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Having our engagement photos taken in the courtyard at St. Scholastica or drinking Argentinian malbec on the hotel rooftop overlooking Buenos Aires during some free time while traveling for our capstone class.
George is a Financial Analyst at St. Luke's Hospital and Kate is a Marketing Planner at St. Scholastica.
It was "best friends" at first sight. It took us 2 years to finally admit our mutual feelings for each other. All our friends and family knew and we were the last ones to figure it out.
1st day of Freshman year, Psychology 105 (we sat right by each other).
Oozeball, hanging out with friends on and off campus, and seeing some of our other CSS friends/couples later get married.
Steph - Sr. Project Manager at Nuance; Eric - Territory Manager at Nott Co.
Little did we know 22 years later, one of our two children is also a Saint. (Reid is a Sophomore at CSS.) Danielle is a senior at UMD, so it is happy for us to see both our children call Duluth their college home and loves all that Duluth offers outside of the campus.
In the Somers Hall kitchen in June 1999; we both were living on-campus over the summer and struck up a conversation while my roommate and I were making chocolate dipped pretzels for a midnight snack.
We made the most of St. Scholastica activities like Fall Fest and Snowball to name a few, but probably playing Oozeball together our senior year.
We’ve called St. Charles, Missouri home for the last ten years, where Matt has built his own practice as financial advisor for Edward Jones. I work for the home office of Edward Jones as Investment Service Specialist. For a short time prior to our move, it was a joy for me to work in Alumni Relations at the College and give back to place that gave me so much.
We made a few trips back to Duluth since our relocation to Missouri and during our trip in the Fall of 2019, we drove Isaiah (our 16 year old son) and Maggie (our 12 year daughter) through the campus. We pointed out some of the places that have special meaning to us and marveled at the new growth of buildings, too. The Duluth campus and much of Northern Minnesota hold a big place in our hearts and our story.
We met during Rachel's freshman year, Jeff's sophomore year. We had mutual friends and knew of each other. Jeff was actually dating a girl who lived on my dorm hall. That winter after a large snowfall a group of us went out to play in the snow. Jeff tried to throw me into the snow, I kneed him in the head. We starting dating shortly after that.
Enjoying campus and the city of Duluth together: Valley of Silence, Lester Park picnics, Canal Park boardwalk and Christmas sing-along to Handel's Messiah. Many memories made with friends during Mayfest as well Oozeball tournament & Johnny Holmes band dances.
We were married before we graduated from CSS. Now married for 22 years with 3 beautiful children. Jeff is the worship pastor at our church, working on his masters in ministry. Rachel is working as an Occupational Therapist in our local clinic.
We actually met in high school and both ended up coming to St. Scholastica.
We had so many amazing experiences with CSS, its hard to pick just one. Working and volunteering together with Outdoor Pursuit. Leading trips such as canoeing through the boundary waters, or winter camping. Or starting the CSS Rugby club together.
We both work at CSS! We really do love it here. Kaitie works in Onestop and Tyler works in purchasing. We were married in June 2018, just bought our first house in Duluth this past November and are expecting a baby girl this upcoming May. It has been a crazy ride! Tyler coaches rugby for CSS as well. We love hiking and getting outside, especially with our two dogs, Mckinley and Odin.
Our relationship started as two really great friends. We did everything together and had so much fun, it just made sense to be together. We have always been able to stay positive and support one another, which has truly been amazing. We like doing a lot of the same hobbies like sailing, camping, hiking and exploring. At the same time, we have other hobbies like woodworking for Tyler or painting and art for Kaitie which gives us healthy time to grow individually. We have found this balance with each other, and I think it is because out relationship started as really great friends, we just understand each other. Through a mutual friend who happened to also be our match maker in the end.
So many to count; hanging out on campus, oozball, snowball, Reif run, campus plays, lighting of tower building, spring break trips to name a few ??
We currently live in Duluth, MN. We fell in love at CSS as well as with the city of Duluth, and we never left. Courtney is a nurse practitioner at Essential Health in gynecology/oncology. John is a manager at United Health Care. We've been blessed with 3 beautiful and amazing children; Benjamin (11), Carly (9), and Ethan (4), who keep us busy and very active. Ironically we took family pictures in front of the Scolastica Tower building for our Christmas card this year (see below). We always laugh and tell our kids Scholastica is where it ALL started for us and will always have a special place in our hearts.
John and I started out as friends. I had tried to connect him with a classmate of mine in the nursing program, but he suddenly sparked an interest in me, and I noticed him hanging around our apartment more. My roommate, at the time, knew he was interested so she ended up playing match maker, and helped to set up our first date. We hit it off and have been together ever since.
In the Commons. A group of students were talking with Fr. Carey.

We met through some of our teammates on Wednesday Night Bowling at Skyline Lanes!
Both of us were a part of the athletic program. Brett played basketball for four years, and I played volleyball for three. We were both given the Career Achievement award at the Saints Sports Awards our senior year. It was an amazing moment to recognize our accomplishments throughout our career, and it made it even more special that we were able to share it together.
Brett works at an accounting firm, RSM, in downtown Duluth as a tax manager. I work at St Scholastica in the Campus Recreation Department as the Intramural Sports and Group Fitness Coordinator.
We wouldn't trade our experience at CSS for the world. It has given us life long friends, and helped mold us into the couple we are today!
We met in the fall of 2010 at St. Scholastica. We became close friends as our roommates were all close to each other, and eventually after about a year and half we fell in love and recently got married in September of 2019!
My favorite memory of us is eating at GDR, going to Johnny Holm Band concerts, and enjoying all the great friends we made in college.
We moved to California about five years ago, and currently live in Brentwood, Los Angeles. I train athletes, and Ariel is an accountant at a health and wellness company.
Our love story is as much about the friends we were surrounded by in college, as it is about us. We were so fortunate to find great friends and mentors at St. Scholastica, and we are both better off because of going to school at CSS.
We first met in Sr. Mary Jean Tuttle's communication class. We were even partners in her class a few times. We didn't start dating until a few years later though. We were encouraged by a couple of mutual friends.
We just liked hanging out together in on campus housing- either in the suites or the apartments. We always had fun.
Matt is working for a software development company where he has been for 14 years! Nicole is working as a nurse practitioner at a perinatal clinic. We both enjoy running and love coming back to run Grandma's half marathon annually. Once upon a time, we ran the full marathon a few times too! We have a two year old daughter and one more on the way!
We became friends freshman year and stayed friends until we started dating junior year!
Sitting and eating in Storm’s Den between classes talking to each other and friends.
Abby is an RN at The Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern. Adam is a graduate student in the Masters of Public Policy program at the U of M.
We just had our first baby in November!
We technically first met at the welcome weekend dance our freshmen year in the fall of 2012. A couple friends invited me to go to the dance with them and at the dance we met Josh and his friend. We didn’t really say anything to each other but I saw him type his name into my friends phone and later that night looked him up on Facebook and friended him. I didn’t see him or talk to him until our junior year of college in 2014 (except a happy birthday message on facebook). In the fall of 2014 we were reconnected when we were in the same social psychology class and he was friends with my roommates. He had been over to our apartment quite a few times during the first few weeks of school which allowed us to get to know each other better. One day he randomly messaged me on Facebook asking if we had any homework due for our social psych class. I told him no because at that point I 100% believed we didn’t have any homework. The next day in class ran smoothly until the end of class when our professor told us to turn in our 10 point half sheet assignments. Thankfully, I had mine in my binder and quickly wrote down some answers on the fly (hey it worked I still got all the points). Josh later messaged me that day joking around about how I lied and how I lost him 10 points (somehow he got the 10points but to this day he still brings this up). After that we started to talk more and talking turned in to study dates and study dates turned in to movie dates and finally one of our movie dates on December 5th turned in to Josh asking me to be his girlfriend. Our relationship continued to grow throughout the rest of junior year and throughout the summer and our senior year at CSS.
It’s 2-months after we graduated but it happened at CSS and will always hold a special place in my heart. On July 11th, 2016 I woke up early to take my NCLEX exam for my nursing license. I was a nervous wreck all morning long and the weather did not help at all as it was quite stormy and I was afraid the computers would shut down during my test and I would have to retake it. My mom dropped me off for my exam and after an hour and a half I completed my exam. I was a miserable mess because I got the minimum amount of questions you can get so I was sure I had failed (I passed!). I called my mom and I was just crying. My mom was like “you’re done already?” That made the tears fall even more. My mom picked me up and brought me back to our hotel room. Josh had called me to let me know he was coming up to meet us for lunch. I was not too thrilled about having to go out in public. I just wanted to lay in bed and pout the rest of the morning. Josh came to our hotel and we headed out for lunch. My mom says “Lets swing by Scholastica to see if they have sent out your diplomas yet.” I was annoyed and less than thrilled to go but I was like fine. We parked down by Somers and because it was raining I told my mom let’s walk through the tunnel system. Josh and I pointed out things along the way and then we reached the senior wall where Josh and I had signed our names. I was so focused on finding our names and showing my mom that I didn’t notice Josh until he had nudged my arm and told me he had a letter for me. I thought he was joking and was just giving me a piece of paper from off the ground. I read the first line of the letter and the rest was a blur. Josh had gotten down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Well the first time I didn’t hear him because I told him I was trying to finish reading the letter and finally after 3 times of him asking I finally heard him and said yes! There was a group of students watch from the doors that connected science to tower that cheered for us as I finally said yes. I later found out that Josh had been planning out the engagement for a few weeks now and him and my mom had to problem solve a new proposal spot that morning due to the storm. I couldn’t imagine it taking place at a better place than where we spent so much time of our relationship and where our names were permanently placed on the walls of CSS.
Brooke is an RN on the oncology floor at Mercy Hospital Coon Rapids. Josh is Safety Manager for Lunda Construction in Rosemount. We are currently looking in to buying our first home!
Josh and I later came back to St. Scholastica in the fall of 2017 to take our engagement photos. It was our photographers first time taking pictures at CSS and the pictures could not have turned out more beautiful! We officially married September 29th, 2018 at the Brule River Barn.
