What teacher preparation programs do you have?

  1. Elementary for teaching grades K-6.
  2. Middle/Secondary for teaching grades 5-12 in Social Science, Communication Arts and Literature, Math;and General Science (5-8), Life Science (9-12), Chemistry (9-12)
  3. Instrumental Music with Classroom Music, grades K-12.
  4. Vocal Music with Classroom Music, K-12. 
  5. Spanish K-12

How large are the classes I would be in?

Your education classes will range in size from about 15-25 students.

Will my professors know me and have time for me?

Yes and yes! Our professors are very student oriented. They know each and every student in their classes and are there to help you. We encourage students to stop by our offices whenever they need to.

How will I know what classes to take?

Each student will be assigned a School of Education faculty member as their Academic Advisor. The advisor will meet with the student to plan the student's class schedule.

How many elementary and middle/secondary students are at CSS?

The numbers obviously vary, but there are usually about 100 elementary and middle/secondary students at CSS.

Can I finish in four years?

The best way to answer this is to say that over the last few years about 80% of elementary students graduated in four years and about 50% of middle/secondary students did. Some of the middle/secondary majors have many credits and require 4+ years to complete.

Will I get to work with students in the schools very much?

Yes, you will. One of our strengths is the amount of time our students spend in the local schools working with students. In the first Education Class you will take and in most classes, you will have the opportunity for hands-on work with students.
