…through drumming we hope to participate in the universal language of rhythm that cuts across all geographical and social borders…
World Drumming Ensemble is open to students in all majors, regardless of experience, and provides consistent opportunities to engage in community outreach and touring. The ensemble rehearses on Mondays from 5-6 pm and Fridays from 1-1:50 pm.
World Drumming Ensemble is directed by Dr. Jeremy Craycraft. To participate in World Drumming Ensemble, register for MUS1212 for either 0 or 1 credit. For more information, email Dr. Craycraft.
Students in World Drumming Ensemble prepare and perform rhythms from percussion communities around the world. Many of these arrangements and rhythms would be associated with communal dancing and/or singing, but we believe the music is equally powerful and enthralling when performed by itself. We have performed music from West Africa (Guinea, et.al.), Ghana, Congo, Zimbabwe, Japan, Brazil, and the Caribbean.
World Drumming Ensemble has performed for tens of thousands of students in schools throughout the region. Civic engagement and outreach are crucial to our mission as a performance ensemble. We have performed for CHUM benefits, Duluth Rotary and Duluth Kiwanis meetings, Benedictine Living Community of Duluth, and Duluth Battle of the Bands, as well as our annual performances for CSS's United for African Festivals, various cultural performances (International Club/Haitian benefit), and annual Admissions Open Houses.
