The Saints Steel Band is open to students in all majors. We rehearse on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2:15-3:20 in Tower 3625. The Steel Band performs traditional T & T styles such as soca and calypso, as well as jazz, classical, and popular styles while also engaging in community outreach and education.
The Steel Band is directed by Dr. Jeremy Craycraft. To participate in Steel Band, register for MUS1214 for either 0 or 1 credit. For more information, email Dr. Craycraft.
The Saints Steel Band is consistently in demand as a regional performance and educational ensemble. The ensemble performed for a Kids Plus Art in the Park Program and continued our annual tradition of performing "at the beach" for the Duluth YMCA Board of Directors Meeting and Awards Banquet.
The band has performed at the Great Lakes Pan Festival; National Underground Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; Percussive Arts Society Rhythm Discovery Center in Indianapolis; Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra's School Spotlight series; Virginia Beach (VA) Panorama Festival & Competition (Silver Medal); Duluth Bayfront Reggae Festival; Bayfield's (WI) Summer Mostly Thursdays Performance Arts Series; Minnesota Music Educators Conference; Minnesota State University Moorhead Day of Percussion; MN and WI TRIO Conference; and a collaboration with the Miami University (OH) Steel Band.
In addition, the Steel Band has now performed for tens of thousands of elementary through high school students across the state and region and consistently performs outreach concerts for both the immediate campus community and the greater Northland community (including YMCA, Kids Plus Art in the Park, Duluth Sister Cities International, and many others).
