The Tanzanian Experience Service Learning Trip

Students in AfricaThe Tanzania Experience is one of the College's longest running study/service abroad programs. Originally founded by Sr. Beverly Raway, the program sends a group of students to work with the Benedictine sisters in Tanzania.

The next trip is scheduled for Summer 2021. Students and faculty will travel together to the St. Scholastica school in Tanzania. The school was founded by St. Scholastica Alum, Sr. Gaudensia Mwanyika to provide education in Tanzania to children with physical and developmental disabilities. The group will spend 18 days at the school with the sisters mentoring teachers on new technology, helping with maintenance, reading to children, playing with students during recess, assisting in the classroom and helping out as needed.

The group will also make several visits to nearby Bagamoyo to learn about the history of Tanzania's first capital city, tour the German colonial compound, the Islamic ruins of Kaole, the first Catholic parish site and ruins, local markets and the Indian Ocean beach.

After the service portion of the trip, the group travels to Mikumi National Park for a three day safari.
