Students tour St. Petersburg and Moscow, and participate in numerous outings in the region around Petrozavodsk, including a visit to the island of Kizhi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through formal and informal meetings with their Russian peers, professors and representatives from the community, students practice their Russian and gain a better understanding of Russian and Karelian culture and traditions. Early summer in Petrozavodsk offers many opportunities to attend athletic and cultural events.
Students are housed in private homes or apartments with students from Petrozavodsk State University and have lunch in the university dining hall, providing them many opportunities for contact with their Russian peers. The American directors of the tour are on hand to assist with learning and living adjustments.
