The College of St. Scholastica is offering a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) at no cost. The course: Exploration of SNOMED CT Basics. Registration for the Spring 2014 SNOMED CT Basics Course is now closed. The course needs to be fully completed by June 13.
This eight-week course explores the basic structure and uses of SNOMED CT. Instructional materials are featured from the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) and supplemented with learning activities, discussion forum for information exchange and instructor support.This course provides information about the use of SNOMED CT in healthcare technology applications leveraging the recently published Starter Guide from IHTSDO.
Value-added instruction including lectures, self-testing assessments, exercises and resources are provided within the course structure.
Rita has more than 40 years of experience in health information management. She recently retired from the American Health Information Management Association after 14 years in a variety of roles, most recently the Senior Advisor for Global Standards.
Standards development experience includes ISO 215 Technical Committee for Health Informatics (former US Technical Advisory Group expert for WG3 Semantic Content), elected to the HL7 Process Improvement Co-Chair, IHTSDO Education SIG, participation in the SNOMED CT Advisory Scheme and WHO-FIC Information & Education Committee.
Each unit features one or more self-assessment tools for self-assessment, using practice exercises for knowledge acquisition.
