Message from the Director

For a professional in the HIM field, the current environment in healthcare and information management and technology is limitless. Opportunities abound, made clear by the nation's focus on improving and increasing healthcare information technology through the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH Act) of 2009, and through the Bureau of Labor Statistics' prediction that jobs in the profession will increase by 18% through 2016. The Health Information Management graduate program at The College of St. Scholastica is poised to meet the needs and growth of the HIM profession.

Our program was the first to be accredited by the Comission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), and it shows through our history, our reputation, and our ability to succeed through the ever-changing healthcare environment. Our program incorporates the best of blended learning, integrating on-line and in-class experiences. After more than 75 years in HIM education, today we offer a graduate program that recognizes the demanding environment of healthcare, and the needs of working adults striving to maintain and grow their marketability, and their knowledge of electronic health data and information management concepts and principles, in the robust world of health information technology.

In my opinion, there is not a more exciting profession to pursue - good luck!
