What is the ATHENS™ Educational Subscription Service?

Through the ATHENS Project, The College of St. Scholastica has achieved national leadership in preparing its health science students for professional practice in the technology-rich environment of 21st century health care. Now St. Scholastica is offering its expertise beyond its classrooms.

The Subscription Service allows other colleges and universities to use the ATHENS system for a fraction of the time and cost they would incur to develop a similar program on their own. The service features ongoing technical support and immediate access to all system upgrades.

AHIMA and AMIA recently published Building the Work Force for Health Information Transformation. In it they identify nine actions that academic institutions should employ to adequately prepare a healthcare work force to be capable of leading change and working in an electronic environment. Subscribing to ATHENS addresses many of these recommendations.
