Rob Kehr Farmington, MN Class of 2003 CIS
Tell us about the work you do: I work in information services for Securian Financial Group in St. Paul, MN. I manage a team of seven associates who provide support for all production information processing for Securian. I am responsible for hiring, mentoring and coaching the associates on my team. I am also responsible for facilitating, supporting and leading various business continuity planning initiatives from the technology perspective. The aspects of my job that I enjoy the most are working closely with Human Resources in the recruiting and hiring effort, acting as the liaison between the technology area and the business and application development areas, and building a strong, cohesive team of associates who provide excellent support and service to our customers. A source of pride in your life: The biggest source of pride for me is my family. I have a fantastic wife, Molly, who supports me completely. She is my best friend and partner, and I rely on her more than any other person in my life. I also have great parents who are always there to support my two brothers, sister and me.
Best St. Scholastica memories: The best memories I have all surround the relationships I built while attending St. Scholastica. I was fortunate to play hockey with a great group of teammates, with whom I built many friendships during those four years. We had a lot of fun on and off the ice, including our MayFest tradition of playing croquet, even when it snowed.
Significant influences: While I was at St. Scholastica, Diana Johnson and Kathleen Cargill helped me out tremendously. Diana Johnson was my academic advisor and helped me select classes that would best prepare me for life after school. She was always there to answer my questions and helped me stay on task for graduation. Diana also helped me get my internship at Securian. Without her guidance, who knows where I would be today? Kathleen Cargill was the director of the Computer Science, Engineering and Math Scholars Program, and she helped me out with my re´sume´ writing and interview preparation. Something interesting about your life: I was fortunate enough to be a coach at the USA Hockey Boys' Select 15 and 16 Player Development Camps over the past two years. Having the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best coaches in the country has helped me become a better coach. Also, working with the top players in the nation of a particular age group was a fun and rewarding experience.
Family ties: My wife, Molly (O'Rourke) Kehr, graduated from St. Scholastica in December 2002.
Further education: I will graduate with my MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota in May 2008.
Philosophy: "It only takes a little more to go first class." - Allan Renfrew (Grandfather)
Impact of the Benedictine values: The Benedictine value of community is extremely important to me. In my opinion it represents the relationships you build as you go through life. I believe that my success and happiness in life have been built upon the relationships I have with my family, friends, peers, coworkers, teachers and mentors.
