The College of St. Scholastica has a long and proud history of being a leader in providing recreational and fitness programming for its students. Long before it became popular at most college's, St. Scholastica gave voice to educating women in the virtues of recreation, wellness and fitness.

That voice was Gladys Swanson. Mrs. Swanson was the Physical Education Director from 1931 through the early 70's. Today, Campus Rec's motto is "Your Home for Recreation, Sport and Spirit!" We owe this long standing commitment of recreation and experiential learning to the foresight of the Benedictine Sisters and to the personal commitment of Gladys "Swanny" Swanson.
