The Master of Science in Nursing Program and Nursing Post-Master's Certificate Program will consider applicants who:
- Submit a completed Graduate Admissions Application form online or download the .pdf print version and a non-refundable application fee of US $50. Fee waived for St. Scholastica Master of Arts in Nursing graduates applying to the Post-Master's Certificate Program.
- Effective March 15, 2007, when you provide a check as payment, you authorize us either to use information from your check to make a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account or to process the payment as a check transaction. For inquiries please call the College of St. Scholastica Business Office at 1-800-447-5444 or 723-6092. When we use information from your check to make an electronic fund transfer, funds may be withdrawn from your account as soon as the same day you make your payment, and you will not receive your check back from your financial institution.
- Have earned a baccalaureate degree (graduate degree applicants) or a master's degree (Post-Master's Certificate applicants) with a major in nursing from a CCNE or NLN accredited program prior to the program start.
- Have completed all undergraduate prerequisite requirements prior to the program start.
- Statistics course inclusive of descriptive and inferential statistics
- Research methods course
- Community health nursing course or its equivalent
- Health assessment course
- Submit all official transcripts of baccalaureate and graduate coursework.
- Have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Submit a complete Graduate Nursing Essay.
- Submit three Graduate Recommendation forms; such as one from a current nursing employer, a nursing colleague, and a nursing instructor. Applicants who have been out of school for more than three years can submit another professional recommendation in lieu of the nursing instructor.
- Submit a completed Master of Science in Nursing Self-Assessment form.
- Submit a professional resume or curriculum vitae.
- Preferably have one to three years' experience as a registered nurse.
- Interview with faculty of the Nursing Department may be requested
Note: Meeting minimal entrance requirements does not necessarily guarantee admission. Exceptions to minimum criteria may be made at the discretion of the admissions committee.
Undergraduate Prerequisite Requirements
- Statistics course inclusive of descriptive and inferential statistics
- Research methods course
- Community health nursing course or equivalent
- Health assessment course
Admission Reqirements Upon Acceptance
Upon acceptance into the Master of Science in Nursing Program and Nursing Post- Master's Certificate Program, students will need to:
- Annually submit proof of coverage by professional liability insurance ($1 million for each occurrence) and nurse practitioner (NP) students must carry NP student liability.
- Meet specific health requirements of the School of Nursing:
- Physical examination by a licensed healthcare provider.
- Annual Mantoux test or chest x-ray.
- Annually pass a state-mandated criminal background check for all Minnesota nursing students prior to first day of classes.
- Submit a copy of current nursing license (to be current and on file at all times).
- Submit a copy of current CPR certification (to be current and on file at all times).
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International students applying to The College of St. Scholastica must submit all requirements no later than 90 days prior to the beginning of the starting term. Refer to the International Student Web site: http://www.css.edu/Admissions/International_Students.html
Transfer Credits
Students may apply transfer graduate credits they have earned from an accredited college or university toward completion of their St. Scholastica degree. A maximum number of six transfer credits can be applied. The transfer credit must have been completed no more than seven years prior to the date the St. Scholastica degree is completed. Forms to request transfer of credits can be obtained from the Graduate Admissions Office. The College of St. Scholastica will consider transfer credits from students who:
Submit a Credit Transfer Application form.
Submit official transcript sent from the accredited institution.
Submit the course syllabus, catalog or other pertinent descriptive information.
Demonstrate course content is applicable to the program enrolled.
Have earned course grade of 3.0 or better.
Completed the course seven years prior to graduating from the St. Scholastica program.
Degree-seeking students planning to enroll in courses at another institution with the intent to transfer the credits to The College of St. Scholastica will need to send a written request and supporting course documentation to the program director prior to enrolling in the course. Written approval will be provided if the course is acceptable for transfer.
The College of St. Scholastica is registered as a private institution with the Minnesota Office of Higher education pursuant to sections 136A.61 to 136A.71. Registration is not an endorsement of the institution. Credits earned at the institution may not transfer to all other institutions.
