Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology at The College of St. Scholastica, the graduate will be able to:
1. Describe exercise physiology, exercise physiology professionalism, characteristics of professional development, and barriers to the professional development of exercise physiology.
2. Examine and critique the role of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP) in the development of professional credentials for exercise physiologists.
3. Evaluate and analyze the legal implications regarding the exercise physiology body of knowledge, the standards of professional practice, and critical thinking in research and scientific writing and oral communication.
4. Critically examine and analyze the practical and scientific aspects of functional anatomy, particularly as it relates to dysfunctional lifestyles.
5. Sit for the Exercise Physiologist Certified (EPC) exam to become a board certified exercise physiologist.
6. Evaluate the importance and value of professional commitment and dependability, and assume leadership positions in the profession of exercise physiology.
7. Evaluate and administer graded exercise tests, describe the contraindications for a test and the procedures for and advantages of using oxygen analyzers in assessing cardiorespiratory function.
8. Examine and critique the benefits of cardiorespiratory training and adaptations resulting from exercise, and the contribution of central and peripheral factors to oxygen uptake at rest and during exercise.
9. Analyze and understand the integrative aspects of cardiovascular control and regulation to upright and inverted postures, and the limitations to maximum oxygen uptake.
10. Compare and contrast health, fitness, and exercise related research articles; the methods, designs, statistics, and implications for critical thinking.
11. Apply the exercise physiology body of knowledge in the care of postmyocardial infarction patients.
