What is UB?
The College of St. Scholastica's Upward Bound (UB) Program has been successfully providing motivation and postsecondary preparatory support since 1993. The CSS UB Program works with 71 low-income, first-generation youth per year. UB students attend area target high schools including as AlBrook, Cloquet, Cook, Cotton, Duluth Central, and Wrenshall.
The College of St. Scholastica's UB Program is designed to provide the motivation and skill necessary to complete high school, enter a program of postsecondary education, and succeed in postsecondary education by earning a four-year degree. To accomplish this ambitious goal, students participate both during the academic school year and in a six-week summer program.
The UB Program has been extremely successful. UB boasts a 93% retention rate of all high school students served. To date, 99% of UB students have graduated from high school. CSS UB students go on to attend a wide variety of post secondary institutions. The College of St. Scholastica is one of only 47 postsecondary institutions nationwide with at least five TRiO Programs on campus. In addition to Upward Bound Math/Science, St. Scholastica's programs include Talent Search, Upward Bound, Student Support Services, and the McNair Scholars Program.
