What is Upward Bound?

Upward Bound is a pre-college program designed to prepare eligible high school students to successfully pursue an education beyond high school. We serve students from Cloquet, Central, Albrook, Cook, Cotton, and Wrenshall.
Upward Bound is a federally funded TRiO Program through the U.S. Department of Education designed to assist 75 students who are interested in enhancing their academic skills and continuing their education beyond high school.
All activities are provided FREE of cost if you are accepted into the program. Students are responsible for all personal items during Upward Bound programs and activities.
Meet WEEKLY with Upward Bound advisor at your high school to receive tutoring, discuss academic counseling, review goals, career plans, and college planning (scholarships,financial assistance, ACT preparation, essay writing, and college applications.
Attend MONTHLY Upward Bound Saturday Sessions, which includes community service projects, academic skill building, college campus tours,cultural events, academic and recreational activities.
Attend SUMMER classes at The College of St. Scholastica for five weeks and live in the dorms. Spend an additional week experiencing culture and eduacation.

Upward Bound is a Federal TRIO Program. It is an educational opportunity outreach program designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Upward Bound is one of six TRIO outreach and support program targeted to serve and assist low-income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs.
