Dance Policy
Dances can be a fun time for the St. Scholastica community to come together for an evening of music and social merriment. But in all its simplicity, planning a dance is a bit more complex.
If you're thinking about planning a dance this year, please be sure that you meet all of the following requirements.
- All dances must be planned at least one month in advance. An official dance form will be due to the Coordinator of Student Activities one month prior to the event. If it is turned in any later, your dance will not be considered for approval. Dance forms can be found in T17B or on-line.
- No dance will be scheduled within three weeks of any other on-campus dance. Too many dances too close together is detrimental to programming and, put simply, too much of a good thing. Priority will be given to clubs/organizations in the order that their forms are submitted.
- All dances must have faculty/staff supervision. Typically this is the job of a club advisor. Double check with your advisor and any other faculty or staff members that might be helping with the dance. Be sure they understand their role and confirm that they will be there the entire time. If you do not have a supervisor for the dance it will be canceled.
- Extra campus security is required. Contact the campus security office to request additional security staff for the event. This service is not free. The group planning the dance is required to pay for the extra security. Talk to campus security about costs.
- The presence of at least one Duluth Police officer is required. Contact the Coordinator of Student Activities in T17B to set up this service. This service is not free. The group planning the dance is required to pay for the services of the Duluth Police officer. Cost for this service is $55 per hour with a minimum of four hours.
So, before you worry about who's buying the streamers or whether the theme will be ‘luau' or ‘disco fever', be sure to secure a budget that will satisfy the security needs, check with your advisor, and turn in the appropriate forms. Taking the appropriate steps will help alleviate possible headaches for yourself and your patrons.
