Additional Information

Founded in the fall of 2005, United for Africa is a student led club at The College of St. Scholastica that seeks to raise awareness and foster an in-depth analysis about issues affecting Africa and the African Diaspora. Club membership is open to all students, staff and faculty and currently includes members from various countries in Africa, South America, the Caribbean and the United States.

United for Africa was established in an effort to clear prejudices and stereotypes about the often misunderstood and misrepresented continent of Africa and the African Diaspora. The club believes that the present struggles that the people of Africa and the African Diaspora face are rooted in a history of colonization and oppression, and that today’s reality of neocolonialism continues to exacerbate these problems.

The club advocates justice for the African community by leading and hosting activities that promote awareness and advocacy surrounding issues of health, politics, education and human rights in Africa and the Diaspora. The hope is to better inform the College of St. Scholastica community so they will be empowered to actively participate in positively changing the future of Africa and the Diaspora.
