One of the main drawbacks to GMail, as it relates to functionality previously enjoyed with Groupwise, is the inability to click on links which open an email to the recipient. This is at least annoying and at worst a hindrance to productivity and communication. This is an especially pronounced shortcoming of the Gmail service when it comes to faculty using BannerWeb's ability to mass email all currently resgistered students in a course (in the course detail or summary pages).

The IT department has developed a process to enable "mailto" links to work within the Firefox, Internet Explorer and the Chrome web browsers.
It is highly recommended that all users utilize either Firefox or Chrome as their default browsers for email and calendaring, only using Internet explorer for websites that require it.
This does not, at this time, provide for the ability to "send as email" through any of the Microsoft Office applications. We are working on ways to enable this. If you feel that the ability to "send as email" through any of the MSOffice applications is critical to your work flow or professional practice, please contact Lowell Larson in IT.
