Cor now thinks on it's feet!
Each Cor page now has a new footer bar. But it's not just any old footer bar, it's a smart bar. You'll notice the date, always nice to know, and some icons which will take you directly to your email inbox and calendar. But the real fun is in the "Alerts" section. This will show you that you have some items which need your attention, gentle reminders to take action. Mine says "No Active Alerts" because I've taken care of all the things which need my attention, a rare occasion I assure you.
If the green dot was red with a number 1 in it, I'd have one item upon which I should take action. By clicking on the red dot, I'd be brought to the page which I can use to take care of what I need to do. We can now use this to help remind you, in a subtle way, about important and timely items like completing your Annual Confidentiality Training, or Registering a Second Email Address for increased security. As we grow our use of this portal feature, we hope to let you know when important deadlines like Open Enrollment,Course Registration or Grades are Due come up. Don't be surprised if you find out "You Have a Package" or "Happy Birthday" from our new intelligent footer. This is the beginning of our initiative to bring you more a personalized portal experience. If you have any comments or questions, please contact your humble portal administrator at portaladmin@css.edu.
We've created a set of responces to some frequently asked questions about the portal. We'll be expanding this as more of our community begins to use cor.css.edu Here's the link to the FAQ.
A portlet is a little window into content. It's like an "app". Here's an example of what a portlet looks like, in the portal you'll be able to view video content.

Thank you for beta testing Cor. The goal of the beta phase of our portal implementation is to get feedback on usability, look and feel, and performance. We hope that Beta also sparks ideas for additional content as well as excitement on future use.

The portal is an online environment in support of our community.
It's intended to be integrated with all the web based services we have here at The College of St. Scholastica. That means you should be able to move between services like email, learning management and community communications without having to log in all the time. One login between Banner, Google and Blackboard is the first phase of creating this "single sign on" ability. As the portal comes alive and begins being part of the community, we'll be brining more services under the umbrella of One Login. In the beginning, the portal is intended to be a platform for communications and community. We expect it to grow and change along with the needs of our community. The intention is that portal content and functionality will evolve along with our ability to take advantage of it. We hope to create a stable place from which to grow.
Also, as we move along, it's also supposed to function as your personal "dashboard." For that to be of true usefulness, you'll need to be able to customize the look, feel and navigation of the portal. At first, because we want to focus on ensuring that it's working right, we don't have any options for personalization. That will change! We foresee users having the ability to create pages for private use and public consumption, change the look and feel of the portal, create and join communities, share videos and lots more. This will come as soon as we are comfortable with the function and performance of the portal. That also goes for types of users in the portal. Right now, it's just active members of the Students, Faculty and Staff of The College of St. Scholastica. Next to receive portal accounts will be prospective students, alumni and possibly other invited guests.
