Guide Training - Northern Explorers

Northern Explorers is a group of students who are passionate about taking all people outside and teaching them how to safely experience the wilderness. The group is focused on providing high quality opportunities while educating participants about outdoor ethics, risk management, and of course having FUN!

The Northern Explorers volunteer countless hours to training, gear maintenance, trip preparation, and to the numerous outings provided to the CSS community. Each leader dedicates a couple weeks per year to leadership development in order to hone their skills and knowledge. Many of these leaders pursue professional certifications which meet or exceed the outdoor industry standards. Some of the certifications include Wilderness First Responder - Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA), Sea Kayak Instructor - American Canoe Association (ACA), and Climbing Instructor - Professional Climbing Instructor Association (PCIA). Outdoor recreation is a passion shared between all of these students, all of them are pursuing degrees in nursing, management, sport exercise, teaching, ect... So they take time to share these experiences because they want others to have the opportunity to enjoy everything the Arrowhead Region has to offer.

Northern Explorers also hosts events in order to fundraise money to cover training and programming expenses. Our annual fund raising goal is $2,000. If you wish to donate or if you have a school group, church group, scout troop, club, organization, or just a group of friends that wants to have fun contact us to see what we can offer. Past programming includes winter skill/activity days, indoor rock climbing, stand up paddle boarding, day trips sea kayaking, and multi-day adventures into the wilderness. We also hold a raffle in February/March with prizes and gift certificates from many local businesses and products from some of our outdoor vendors.
