Spring 2009
Greetings fellow alumni,
As I write this, the College is a few weeks away from celebrating its spring commencement ceremony. The Alumni Association is looking forward to hosting the post-graduation reception and welcoming our
graduates to the alumni association.
This June will mark the end of my two-year term as president of the Alumni Association Board. It will also be the end of my fi nal term as a member of the board. I want to thank my fellow board members and our alumni staff for their generosity and support. It has been a pleasure to serve with such a wonderful group of alumni who are truly committed to the College.
Two other members of the Alumni Board will complete their fi nal term in June. Thank you to Jim
Antilla '90 (MA '94) and Susan Weber '93 for their service and dedication.
I want to once again extend my personal invitation for you to join us in Duluth at Reunion Weekend -
"Alums Will Shine in 2009!" - this June 25-28. As always, you'll have plenty to do and many people to
see. Come and shine with us!
Reunion will be an extra-special celebration as we wish a big 75th "Happy Birthday" to the Health
Information Management (HIM) program. Check out www2.css.edu/him75 for details on the many
anniversary-related events throughout the year.
These are the folks who led the pioneering project that brought the electronic health record into the
Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences as a teaching/learning tool. And, we are still leading the
country in that work. Congratulations HIM folks and thanks for keeping us on the cutting edge!
During Reunion Weekend, we will also honor the recipients of our annual Alumni Awards. You can
read about the accomplishments of Mary Ann Royer '59, Barry Lesar '73, Mary Ann Jackels '87 and
Kathy LaTour '68 on pages 18 and 19. Congratulations to all of you!
"Paint the Town Blue!" That's the theme for Homecoming 2009. You probably already know that last
year's inaugural Homecoming with football was a smashing success. Let's repeat that in '09. Grab your
classmates, family and friends and "come home" Sept. 25-27. See page 31 for details.
Again, many thanks for your support. I am grateful.
Saints for Life!
Steve Gacek ’02 (MA ’03)
