Spring 2012
Greetings Fellow Alumni,
I enjoyed visiting campus in December to celebrate the winter commencement and in February
for the Board of Trustees meeting. The progress made on the Science Building addition is
remarkable. The tunnels connecting Somers Hall to Science and Science to Tower have opened.
Those living in Somers Hall can now attend class during the winter without donning a coat!
The campus has changed dramatically in the nearly 10 years since I've graduated. However, I
firmly believe that the instruction within its walls continues with the same rigor, holding fi rm to
the Benedictine values, providing sound intellectual and moral preparation for its students. This
year we have a special opportunity to recognize and rejoice in this tradition with the celebration
of our Centennial.
The College has prepared many events and opportunities for you to reconnect and celebrate with current students, staff, Sisters of the St. Scholastica Monastery and fellow alumni throughout the year. I encourage you to use these opportunities to visit the campus and enjoy the activities that have been scheduled. A number of events have been scheduled across the U.S., if you are unable to make it back to Duluth.
The big celebration for our alumni will take place during Centennial Reunion Weekend, occurring June 21-24. The weekend will begin on Friday the 22nd. We're planning a fun unveiling of the Centennial Sculpture in the Benedictine Commons (Science Atrium) followed by a social, which will include the Silent Auction. The Silent Auction is an important fundraiser for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. If you would like to make a donation to the Silent Auction, please contact Carrie Emslander at cemsland@css.edu or at (218) 723-6034. All proceeds go directly to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.
I look forward to meeting many of you through the year at the various events coming our way. If you need more
information about the Centennial and upcoming highlights, I encourage you to visit centennial.css.edu or the
Centennial Facebook page at facebook.com/csscentennial. Please also visit the alumni website to learn more about
Centennial Reunion weekend and other alumni events: alumni.css.edu.
Sincerely,
Jacob Tjaden, ‘03
