CSS-LEIPZIG EXCHANGE PROGRAM
...the perfect way to gain professional experience and have a lot of fun...
The students and faculty from the College of St. Scholastica have been going to Leipzig, Germany for more than 5 years. Each year a small adventurous group takes the opportunity to enjoy 2 weeks of living and learning at the Medical Institute of the University of Leipzig.
LEIPZIG
... a city of a half million people, located in the center of East Germany, is a very special place to go. A mixture of traditon and future attracts people from all over the world to come and enjoy its charms. Having been a trading centre for over 800 years, Leipzig has turned into a cosmopolitan and open-minded city, while still maintaining its rich history.
The city's university and colleges have always made sure that young and innovative spirits can feel at home there.

What is it?
It's an agreement between CSS and the University of Leipzig, to exchange students/faculty in the Health Science for a yearly two-week program. It offers a chance for students/faculty to network with Germans in matching professional fields. Although students do not formally take classes, they shadow other German students and collect information for their individual projects developed in the Spring Leipzig Seminar on campus.
When is it? The two week visit takes place after the CSS school year (late May) as the culmination of a Spring semester "Leipzig Seminar," a 0-3 credit preparatory course on campus. The summer following the Junior or Senior year is recommended for participants. Students are encouraged to tour Europe on their own at the end of the Exchange Program.
Who is eligible?
All CSS students who have German language backgrounds (minimum, completion of GMN 1104 or 3 years high school), are independent learners and have a sense of adventure. Students in the Health Sciences will be given priority, but CSS students in all disciplines are eligible. Up to four participants a year will be chosen.
What does it cost?
Students pay for their own transportation to Leipzig and back (approx. $650-800, depending on current fares). Once there, room and board are provided by the University of Leipzig. The CSS Senate supports the program with a small stipend to enable attendance at various cultural events and a city orientation.
