Biochemistry is the study of the role of chemical processes in living systems.

At The College of St. Scholastica, the major in Biochemistry is earned through the Chemistry Department (click on the Catalog link) by a combination of coursework in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics in addition to the general education program.  CSS Biochemistry majors also have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty on research projects during the academic year or summer.

CSS  students often choose  a major in Biochemistry as preparation to:

  • attend graduate school in biochemical and biomedical related disciplines;
  • pursue  entry-level employment in  biotechnology fields; or
  • enter  professional school in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, optometry, physician's assistant, etc.
